Deep burnished gold with an orange rim. Subdued on the nose, but swirling releases a lovely burst of sweet tobacco and rose hips. Sweet entry, with a caressing texture but the acidity dominates the mid-palate. The fruit comes through late on the palate and is full of dried apricots. Very long finish, full of dry cranberry and apricots. 86/100. 7 hour decant.
This a good bottle, and perfectly mature for current drinking. Such a shame that Cockburn went off-piste on VP for a generation - I do hope the wines from the current century evolve with similar style..
I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I shall be sober and you will still be ugly - W.S. Churchill
Ck67, brought by AHB and decanted at noon. Red-brown, 35% opaque. Nose dominated by leather, with red cherries and smoke. A lovely nose. Palate starts very hollow, thereafter mid-weight. Lovely unctuous texture mid-palate. Losing fruit, but I did detect coconut.
