Updated draft of the placemats.
  • BI63 replaces Ch85, as more appropriate to theme.

Please could somebody check the latest draft of the placemats? (People, Ports, headers, etc.)

I retain a lingering concern with bringing two ports made by RCV, particularly when the purpose of bringing two was that the first was likely to be pretty undrinkable!

Do people really want Sibio 85 and RO 58, or just one and then something more likely to bring drinking pleasure?

ALSO: a request - if anyone has a bottle of Guimaraens 1988 and/or 1991 that they don't mind sacrificing, could they bring it to tasting (i am happy to pay)? F&R have 151 cases of halves of 1991 at £10ish per half, and a good number of 1988 at the same price, so it would be extremely interested in giving them a go.

My mother-in-law likes port and wine, but will drink a quantity barely distinguishable from zero.

Or, of course, both, and ‟something more likely to bring drinking pleasure”.

hmmm....

a W70 to face off against the BBR70 might be interesting (they are slightly different Warre blends, i am led to believe). And be fun alongside the Roeda v Croft 70 comparison. I have one for £40-45 from the Tennants auction last year, if there are a couple of people willing to split costs with me...(since i am already bringing 2 bottles. Other option is i just sub it in for the Sibio 85, which could then wait for another day)

Or, since we have had W70 recently, i have on "death row" the following: Ni92, Ni91, SW85, W83, D80, BBR own selection 77 (QH), OBV70, Vargellas 69, Cr60

I’ll willingly pay a share.

A decision by Sunday would be welcome.

Decanting times?

• Borges & Irmão 1963? Take your pick from pop-and-pour, one hour, several days. I say let’s go long Sunday morning.

• BBR 1970? I could do Monday pop-and-pour evening, or Monday morning, or before.

Wishes?

My mother-in-law will not be coming, as she is insufficiently well to tackle a room full of Brits.

Borges 1963 - decant tonight, 24 hours seems to allow it to pull itself together as much as it can
BBR 1970 - tomorrow morning

I shall decant the Bomfim 1979 at lunch time tomorrow

I'll start decanting the RO and Sibio tomorrow am (andouze style).

Doesn't seem to be much interest in adding the W70 so I'll leave for another time unless at least one person other than Julian/I want it and post to such effect before noon

We seem to have eight people on the placemats and seven on the list - is JDAW's M-in-L still on the placemats?

(Just want to check so I can advise TBH re. numbers)

Offley Crusted also in excellent condition; had a hard fight with my other uncivilised myself in order to avoid really getting side tracked with three excellent bts of Port in front of me right next to coffee. Only the last stand of being sensible and a meeting with auditors at 9:00 AM kept me at bay!

He isn't! (Not through lack of desire I hasten to add)
