1971 Chateau Palmer, Margaux

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Brick red with lots of fine particulate. Expressive nose, lots of barnyard smells and cedar wood but not as attractive as the other years shown alongside. Lovely texture on the palate, really smooth. The tannins arrive on the mid-palate, which is full of leather, roast lamb and redcurrants. The palate is terrific, with lots of development and layering of flavours. Lovely aftertaste, and with a wonderful finish. A lovely, delicate wine which should be drunk up. 86/100.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
