1999 Warre LBV

Filtered style of LBV. Solid red, opaque, just a touch of bricking on the edge. Cloudy appearance, which is interesting considering this is a filtered port. Tasted on a pop 'n' pour basis on a flight from LA back to London.
Youthful nose, with blackcurrants and blackberries dominating over a hint of mint. Initially dry in the mouth but slowly delivers the fruit promised on the nose. Some air in the midpalate suddenly brings this port to live with a vivacity of fruit wound around a fierce acidic core. Lovely coffee aftertaste that is probably the best feature of this port that lasts a surprising time. Fruity, nice complexity and with a great aftertaste this is a very good filtered LBV and has the tannins and acidity to improve for a good few years. 89/100
