Tuesday 29th July: Bring a bottle to share

Post by PopulusTremula »

There seems to be a bit of a summer lull in London tastings. Is there any appetite (or thirst) for an informal evening at the BH or is everyone busy watching Wimbledon, World Cup or Cricket? I keep hearing the siren call from some of my bottles (could also be tinnitus), and thus like a moth to a flame, there can be only one outcome, an experience which would be greatly enhanced in the company of other Lepidoptera.

Poor attempt at allegory aside, let me know if anyone is around and interested on Tues/Weds in July.

I was having very similar thoughts today. I'm defintely interested in meeting up at TBH in July for some port.

However, my diary looks horrid over the next month - I could make 29 or 30 July, 29 would probably work a little better than the 30th.

Anyone interested in meeting in Leeds on 15th July? No, thought not...

Tuesday 8th and Wednesday 9th work for me (unless The Boss tells me, or has already told me and I have forgotten, to the contrary).

As the proposed dates are not mutually exclusive, please indicate your interest for either or both of:

Wednesday 9th July
- jdaw1
- MW

Tuesday 29th July
- AHB

Can't do the ninth, but most other days do-able.

Certainly high time we had an informal get-together to drink through a few odd bottles...

Is there a compelling reason that we need to restrict ourselves to just one such event?

cannot do this week but can maybe do the 29th. Not sure though yet. Do we do port or also wine? The thread is not clear cut!

Would like to do an offline in August, what about the 20th or 27th?

You say that the thread isn't clear cut, and in the very next line you turn it into an organising thread for a tasting in August! Honestly...

Wolfgang: My proposal of a get together, which i had hoped you could attend, was intended to be towards the informal end of the tasting spectrum with sighted bottles of port. I had also planned to bring a bottle of Portugese dry red wine to share when eating and would not object to others bringing non-port.

I have edited the original post to update attendees. I am no longer available tomorrow (9th July) as I am required on the home front.

Taken it as read that the 9th was not going ahead (I should have put my hand up to propose 17 July as am up in town on that afternoon in any respect). Am also amenable to Wolfgang's suggested dates for an August on-line.

Title has been changed.

Function room not available at TBH, have booked a table for 8 in the restaurant from 6pm. This will hopefully be OK considering the intended informality of the event but please let me know if not.

Do we want to do this blind or sighted? My preference would be sighted as we're sitting in the restaurant and it's an informal affair.

Please let me know of your preferences.

I'd make a vote for blind, thinking being:
- if we are only say 6 or 7 attending, then it is not too difficult to handle blinding
- doesn't take too long to taste and vote on 7 bottles and reveal the answers, leaving plenty of time to chatter about the juice subsequently
- would make the placemat creation a lot easier as they can be created now, rather than waiting to near the event to confirm who is bringing what

Only a marginal preference, happy whatever the choice!

I have a slight preference to do this one blind, only because I probably won't decide what to bring until the last minute!

Draft of the placemats.

My first attempt at placemats, requiring some minor guidance from The Creator. Still playing around with the software so we'll see where that ends up.

Usually this only happens with video images. I have spent many a happy hour browsing video post-production forums where people try and work out the difference between square and rectangular pixels.

All, really sorry but I'm going to be a last minute absentee from tomorrow's meet. It would seem that my wife has also arranged an evening out tomorrow (and apparently I was aware!} and given there are already a number of tastings in the diary over the coming months I have reluctantly conceded this one.
