Re: 1974 Graham colheita

Twenty days later: sweet cut grass, brightness in the palate which seems like spearmint, mid-weight early, but rounded and fuller late palate.

Twenty days later: the acidity still prominent. Again, possibly grapefruit. Less rounded and balanced than the ’94 and ’90.

Twenty days later: burnt nose apparent on palate. Very soft, that burnt note deliciously apparent in palate. Smooth fullness late. This is showing better than last time, and it showed well then.

Twenty days later: citrus strong, and heat, marmalade, rounded and big and full still. Heat bigger than last time. Very long. Liked, lots.

Re: Quinta de la Rosa LBV and Vintage Thursday July 8th

There were three days with a flurry of posts, since when five months of silence. • Is this likely to happen? • Tony: do you have all the bottles? • Did you book the Red Room? [I phoned; no you didn’t; I have; 16:00 on Thu 8th July.] • Is everybody still planning to attend? (If not, doubtless waitlis...

I dread to think what features and level of complexity the fridge must be capable of.

Ooh, I might have the temperature of the wrong fridge. The new fridge is complicated. Sorry.

But, by chance, that is the temp at which to blend. I did not know that.

There should be one in the rectangular box in which the samples came.

Also, FTR, placemat.

Re: Taylor’s Kingsman Edition Very Old Tawny

We asked Dirk Niepoort this question straight up, and he said that the types of grapes you need to make a great ruby Port and a great tawny Port are different. You might be able to use one to make the other, but it would not be using the grapes to reach their best potential. His answer was long and...

While I am a little doubtful that organisational ability and broad port ownership are necessarily correlated (I think I am quite good at organising, but have barely 150 different ports) I feel it ill behoves me (as a mere amateur, and a recent arrival on this forum at that) to direct that those of ...

[I am not offering to arrange the latter, I have precisely 0 bottles of 1987 port]
Arranging has traditionally been anti-correlated with ownership of relevant bottles.

Of the 80s and 90s I do not recall seeing recent horizontals of 99, 98, 96, 95, 93, 92, 90, 89, 88, 87, 86, 84, 82, 81, 80
Not me for the horizontal of 1993.

A smidge of the 1963 was left in the glass, and revisited two days later. Ooh, so much bigger and fuller. This colheita needs decanting, several days in advance, rather like a Madeira.

The other 9 are somewhat mixed with some thinking they are not right and others thinking they are just having a...
