It was very clear. Should that be 90% translucency and 10% opacity? Still new to this!

1963 Ferreira
Noticed slight seepage from bottle so a local Scottish emergency was declared. Bottle stood upright until friends arrived (2 days) then decanted. Clear bronze red with lighter edge in colour with 90% opacity. Once opened up (1-2 hours) aroma of figs and raisins. Complex long lovely taste of salted f...

Opening up beautifully. Lots of berries, figs with a long finish. Although the lamb rogan josh didn't really go with it!

Re: A weekend port?
I did something similar a few years ago with a bottle of Vesuvio 1994 but that time I felt that the port was actually better after 4 days in the decanter than on day one! Do you think younger ports generally last longer? I may also include a '95 Calem along with the '77 and '83 in the next weekend ...

Re: A weekend port?
Okay, this is what I've decided to do... I've decanted the '83 and taken a time zero glass (will then sample over 48hrs and report back as instructed). Time zero.... Plums and toffee with quite a large 'rice wine/saké' overtone! Reminds me of a little of a '55 MacKenzie I had a couple of months ago...

Ah, see the confusion. I was meaning open both in parallel and taste both over the 2 days to see how long they hold up.jdaw1 wrote:You mean, which this weekend and which next weekend?

A weekend port?
I'm planning on opening a bottle of Calem for over the weekend. It will be drunk across two nights, Saturday and Sunday. Would a 1983 be more robust than a 1977 for this purpose? Or would it not make a noticeable difference? Any thoughts welcome...(I suppose I could open both and test this - have I ...

Re: 75@40
Hi Tom, If there is still space I would like to come along. Would be flying down from Scotland to attend and new to this. Only recently started a modest VP collection/appreciation and keen to learn. Let me know what the form is (adopt a bottle/ share cost etc?) and whether there is a free space. Che...

Re: Hello from Scotland
Thxanks for the warm welcome and looking forward to meeting you and learning more.
Just had a nice evening with friends and enjoyed a 1963 Burmester and a 1955 Croft (it was a special occasion!).
Will try and put some tasting notes together in the morning...

Hello from Scotland
Hi, I'm new to the forum and wanted to say hello. So 'hello'! Only recently fell in love with port (last couple of years) after visiting Portugal. So, I've started to collect a few bottles and must say what a delight, wish I'd appreciated this fine drink 20 years ago... I will be visiting London tow...
