Re: A Colheita/Aged Tawny 2016 Tasting in London
I am in possession of a slightly leaky bottle of Rozes 40 year old that I collected from a local auction house for a member of :tpf: I was instructed to "drink it or take it to a suitable tasting". This seems to be a suitable tasting so please put this down as a bonus bottle. I will ensur...

Re: Port for sale by retailer
Aldi have an amazing value for money Maynard's 40Y Aged tawny Port for just £29.99. I have just got a couple of bottles, but not tried it yet. I did have a few bottles of their xmas release last year, which was a very lovely 30Y tawny for £30 and I hope this to be even nicer. They also have a Maynar...

Re: A Colheita/Aged Tawny 2016 Tasting in London
Thank you all for the interest so far... Glenn has indicated he is looking at a visit to Europe in Aug/sept next year and maybe available for a tasting then if the timings work. In the meantime, please keep joining the thread if interested and if there is the desire we could maybe have a 'Tawny off'...

Re: A Colheita/Aged Tawny 2016 Tasting in London
No problem Derek...you will obviously be missed, but we can't all like the same things. And yes indeed re the press announcements. I am no longer in magazines and have a few months to work out the next plan...and in the meantime indulge my passion for port. Maybe a marketing role for a port shipper ...

Re: A Colheita/Aged Tawny 2016 Tasting in London
I would always have said 20Y was best too Julian...and for Value it still probably is. But today I was celebrating a life change and opened a 30year old Sandeman. I was able to compare with a 20Y sandman that I had open from the weekend. The 20Y is an old favourite, and a port that I have enjoyed ma...

A Colheita/Aged Tawny 2016 Tasting in London
Other than the Vesuvio tasting in February there is not anything else I have seen planned in for 2016 yet (although I am sure there are thoughts around the 66s at 50), so here is a suggestion for a tasting... I would be interested in organising a tasting of Colheitas and aged Tawnies if there is eno...

Re: 1985 horizontal: Wed 25th Nov 2015, B&F
Having now found myself free on this day, and having checked with Julian that there is room, I would like to join this 85 horizontal tasting if I may? I am afraid I don't have an 85 to contribute (and also see that there has been a lot of pain agreeing on the ports), but I am happy to adopt/contribu...

Re: Tuesday 27th Oct 2015 - an emergency
And apologies for my even more delayed response! It was a fantastic evening and great to meet more members of the :tpf: Very well arranged Charles and a very worthy reason for an 'Emergency', for which i again offer my congratulations! What a privilege to enjoy some great ports and in particular the...

Re: Tuesday 27th Oct 2015 - an emergency?
If any of my fellow emergency service people are free early this evening, drop me a line as I will be killing time in the London Bridge area from about 4.30pm... Not that we want to peak too early!

Thanks for the reply Alex. If I do end up going along I will most certainly report back on the merits of the day and the masterclass.

Looks like steak is the way to go...
Could I please have no starter and a medium rare steak and chips, no sauce.
Thank you.

Decanter Spain & Portugal Fine Wine Encounter Feb 2016
I am considering buying some tickets for the Decanter fine wine encounter on 27th Feb 2016, where there is a 'The Douro Boys - Flying the flag for the Douro' masterclass. Info is a bit thin but I am guessing they will have port producers as well as Douro wine makers. It is £50 for the day tasting ti...

Port & wine websites and blogs
Would kind :tpf: folk please let me know what blogs they can recommend to get more info about Port and Wine. With :tpf: being obviously the best resource, what other sites have good regular updates about 'good juice' as Julian would say? Obviously most the producers have their own sites and I would ...

I can bring a Bottle of GST 2011 and also a magnum of Fonseca 2011. Also for a special treat I have some Waitrose (symington) 2011 I can supply too, if you want to up the quality stakes!
I hope to see you all there.

Re: Thu 10th March 2016 - The Fourth Annual Doty Cup
It all sounds like a wonderful evening, I already feel in debt to Chris for creating such a hedonistic, pleasurable competition. Congratulations on your victory this year Alex. Hi Alex,
It all sounds very intriguing, so could you please put me down to attend. One question, when you says wines, is that Ports or 'normal' vino?
I shall look forward to it, and start pondering on what to present on!

Re: A Year in Port - A film documentary
It would be great if we could get something organised, and if we could do that with a Port producer all the better. I will ask that he keeps in mind, and when the release date and promotional plan are known, we can look at what is possible.

Re: Civilised society is...
One would think that one's butler would be able to collect the decanter from the club the following morning so that one could enjoy the Port in the comfort of one's own home? Is that not an option that they have considered? Wouldn't one send one's Underbutler for such a task - surely one's Butler i...

A Year in Port - A film documentary
At the risk of going over the ground of an old post, I thought I would let you know about what will hopefully be a wonderful documentary on Port to be released in 2016. It is made by David Kennard and Inca Films who have previously made the wonderful wine documentaries: A Year in Burgundy and A Year...

Re: Can you recommend a port glass?
I have discovered by serendipity this evening that Berry Bros Rudd champagne glass is very good for port. That deserves a fuller explanation... ? In terms of port glasses, I was recently in Porto, and at the Sandeman lodge where I did the 1790 tour. It finished in their gift shop where I bought 6 R...
