Re: VWP and b.f.t. Quevedo tasting

Enjoyed Oscar's tasting last night and have now just decanted the two VPs for this evening (the 2005 threw quite a bit of sediment, suggesting a degree of maturity). The LBV is stoppered and will leave the decanting until a bit later. I very much enjoyed it, and I’m looking forward to tonight! Osca...

Another six M&S 2011 in another M&S store. I hope I’m not being sexist but it seem to me that the vast majority of people out shopping are women. Does this mean that women are not interested in VP at €9 a bottle? Discuss[emoji4] Has anyone been shopping in UK M&S? Are they similarly pri...

Re: VWP and b.f.t. Quevedo tasting

Oscar will be open to questions during the tasting, delivered to him by the YouTube chat function. Absolutely nothing to stop some / all of us from zooming in parallel. If too many for one Zoom, we can run parallel Zoom sessions. I’m definitely keen to be included on a zoom. I don’t believe there’s...

Re: VWP and b.f.t. Quevedo tasting

My halves have arrived safely. Some really thoughtful additional touches. Delighted to see the familiar style of placemats (laminated!) and tasting notes sheet. Plus the invitation to a glass of port in Portugal when this is all over. Looking forward to it! Mine arrived safe and sound today, I didn...

Re: Should the IVDP ban the filtration of LBV?

I think personally I would love to have better clarity on the expected peak of drinkability of the wines. If filtered I know that will most likely be as soon as possible, but unfiltered is a lot less clear - are these best in a few years? A decade? More? Who knows?!

Re: Port for sale by retailer

A Quevedo virtual tasting from VWP: https://www.vintagewineandport.co.uk/products/Quevedo-30000 Probably less interesting for the more experienced port drinkers among us but as a relative newbie I certainly had my interest piqued! Any thoughts on this? I figured it's reasonable value and supporting ...

Re: Lockdown Drinking

I’ve been working on a bottle of Taylor’s 10 year old port which is intriguingly red in comparison to any other tawny I’ve had at that age. I’ve also been cracking on with some outstanding craft beers, but I’m not sure maybe others here have any interest so I won’t go into detail unless someone want...

Re: 2018 Declarations

Well this is good news, I’d like to add Sandeman and Offley to my cellar if the budget allows. Are there any indications that these are SQVPs? I have no idea what those houses are likely to produce. From the few statements I've seen, it looks as though these are full house declarations and not sing...

2018 Declarations

As has become traditional, we will report here any news we become aware of relating to declarations of Vintage Ports from the 2018 vintage. First to declare is Sogrape, who will be releasing Sandeman, Offley and Ferreira. Well this is good news, I’d like to add Sandeman and Offley to my cellar if t...

What's particularly amusing is that they've also reduced it down to 3 bottles as that's now the maximum number Asda will let you have of any one item. Maybe they're worried about panic buying of Port? Port is one thing I will never run out of :D The only time I've panic bought port is in the M&...

Asda website currently has a Cockburn LBV (no mention of the vintage however) for £10 per bottle (reduced from £13). A growing, and very annoying habit of the supermarkets is to assume that vintage dates don't matter. I mostly boycott those doing this.. I certainly have been put off buying online i...

My local Asda is still selling off the 2014 stock.

2018 - any early hints on how it's shaping up?

I'm sure I had read somewhere that 2018 was looking to be a good harvest for port, but after 2016 and 2017 there is no way it will be a widely declared vintage. I assume this means that there will be a fairly good chance of some excellent examples of SQVPs available. Does anyone have any early infor...

Re: RE: Re: 2015 LBV options

The Sandeman LBV is my go-to LBV; it's easily available and extremely good value for money. If you can find them, I also recommend Quevedo, Offley and Ferreira. Warre and Smith Woodhouse will be held back for 8-10 years to be released with some bottle age — they will be worth seeking out in due cou...

2015 LBV options

I recently noticed that some 2015 LBVs are now gracing some supermarket shelves. Given 2015 was a rather good year for port wines, does anyone have any suggestions for specific wines that might be worth acquiring as cellar defenders?

Soft and delicious on all three occasions I have popped a cork... but I do decant it for 24 hours before starting on it, and I tasted a bottle in May which JDAW brought to a blind event which was more spirity. The 2011 is more aggressive and I am not planning to broach any more of [my embarrassingl...

How did you find the spirit quality in this? I've had two bottles so far with quite variable quality; one was soft and delicious, the other had an aggressive spirit element that masked almost everything else.

I'm going to abstain from voting as I'll have to decide where I stay once I know the location of the tasting. I would be interested in taking part in all parts of this but don't want to sway the vote if I later find out I can only make it for the main part of the tasting in the end.

I have interest in this as I have no 80s port and I'm looking to acquire some. Happy to split with others if they are interested.
