Re: Latest buy

I appear to have broken my New Year’s resolution to buy no Port in 2025. Damn you Vintage Wine & Port! You have convinced me that I need more discounted Tawny Port in my life!! (Which, to be honest, I do. Good tawny is my go to cellar defender. The more relevant question is whether I need to ow...

Re: Festive Drinking 2024

Nothing too exciting, but I'm opening a 1985 Warre VP to celebrate the New Year. Update: The Warre's ended up being TCA riddled. Not a good way to kick off the New Year. Luckily the day was saved when I opened a 1995 Croft Quinta da Roeda. It's drinking very, very nicely and still isn't fully mature...

Re: Festive Drinking 2024

This evening had: - Quinta do Noval Touriga Nacional 2017 Douro DOC red - Quinta de San Michel Malvasia 2017 Colares DOC white - Quinta das Lamelas 20 y.o. white All fantastic wines. In my limited experience, Quinta das Lamelas make the best White Aged Ports. I love that 20YO. I just wish it was ea...

Re: Christmas present Port

A Durand (Port Version) is a very fine present indeed, however, even if prompted! I agree, George. I couldn't bring myself to spend that kind of money on a corkscrew for myself, but I figured split between 3 kids and making it easier for them all to get me something I really wanted, it was a win al...

Re: Christmas present Port

Unfortunately, I have never received a bottle of Port for Christmas, although I did receive a Durand (Port version) as a gift this year from my kids (my suggestion). I think my family would be too afraid to buy a bottle of Port as a present for fear it might be a poor bottle. None of them know a lic...

I have some of this snoozing in my cellar as well tho I'm tempted to try a bottle after all these. Comments .... If you have several, I'd certainly try one to get a feel for it. They're now just about to turn 40, so they're ready, except for the rare one-off bottles that seem to still be asleep. It...

Re: 1985 Fonseca

This is an excellent Port although I still occasionally come across a bottle of it that's not quite ready to drink. Nonetheless, it's a beautiful Port and I have a case and a half of it quietly resting in my cellar.

Re: Festive Drinking 2024

Last night I finished off a DR 20 year old Tawny. It might be the best 20 year old Tawny that I've ever had. Very smooth and a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity. I'll have nothing until Christmas Eve and will probably break out another TWAIOA or Colheita that night. For after Christmas d...

1 x 1967 Miguels Colheita (bottled 2017)
1 x 2003 Pocas Colheita
2 x Pocas Bonficador (these are fantastic and are a great QPR. I bought the last 2 bottles that Pocas had in stock)

For the record, here's what we could discerne from the bottles this year: G70 T194? perhaps 8 F22 Cr60 Nothing on the cork, likely (19th c) sherry, which I liked T08 Unknown, nothing on the cork, but was port and nice Mz22 Df45 Ck50 Bast_ardo 1927 Quite a lineup! Was there a consensus WOTN?

Teams seemed okay for me, but if someone has a paid Zoom account, that's fine as well. Google video works well if someone has a paid account, otherwise you're limited to an hour.

Re: Latest buy

@ Rummy - that is a lovely port... So I've been told. So far I've acquired 3 OWCs and 3 magnums, but I'm anxious to open one so young. You should open one. It's absolutely young, but it drinks very well after a long decant. I had one recently just to see where it was at and it was very nice.

Yes please. I have some older Taylor's LBV (from the 1990's), so I would most likely open one of those. The only Graham's LBV I have is 2013 through 2015 and that's too young for me.

Andy, we don't know each other, but nonetheless, that's terribly sad news to read. That must have been very difficult to write and I applaud your courage. I hope you find peace and comfort in your family over the next few months. God bless.

I echo Miguel and Alex's comments. It was a lot of fun and I got to put a face to some of the names that I see on this board daily. Thanks Neil for organizing this. Some of the suggestions for future virtual tastings sound interesting if they can be pulled off.

Re: Seckford's Delivery Policy

Wouldn't it make more sense for Seckford to give an "opt in" if someone wanted their purchases shipped in the original container and include a flat freight surcharge fee based on the number of bottles? They could also either charge an insurance fee (if they don't already), or tell the buye...

Re: Experiences with Blackett ports?

The State Store in PA (Fine Wine & Good Spirits) are listing all of them as 750 Ml. bottles. They're also carrying the Blackett 40 y.o. Tawny for $157.49 which is a decent price for a 40 y.o. Yes, that's a pretty good retail price for a 40, especially the Blackett 40. My price came from the las...

Day 1 - popped and poured. Nose fairly ungiving, some high quality sultana. Palate immediately rich but not especially sweet and impression is quite impressively dry mid-late. Confit orange (not marmalade) on the finish. Promising I had one of these this past September and it drank beautifully. I h...

Re: Something off with this 1964 RP

I was going to ask you if you saw this on Catawiki, but then I saw your link and of course it's from there. The T-stopper at the top is ridiculous but the fill is also amazingly good for a 60 year-old Port. I'm not saying it can't have a fill level like that, but I've found it to be rarer more so th...
