Re: Offer of Very Old Tawny Port in Bulk

I feel like Delboy when offered 50 gold chains. I’ll take two. Haha.

winesecretary wrote: 09:37 Tue 21 Dec 2021 £2.89 duty at the moment, the duty is not ad valorem. Then VAT on duty and bottle. So your £20 bottle is £20+£2.89+£4.58=£27.47. Plus the FedEx/DHL handling charge.

Duty rate on port will go up next year when duty rates based on alcohol content come in.
Thanks for your prompt reply!

Re: 2007 Warre LBV (unfiltered)

This is a lovely drop and if, like me, your budget suits this type then I think you’d struggle to get a similar unfiltered LBV better than this.

Re: Cockburn Pie Shop

If it brings joy (and port!) to people then fair play. Yet I shall not be entertaining such an idea. Interesting concept but those tails are clearly marketed to a different audience. Port cocktails aren’t my thing; the only thing added to port should be more of the same.

Re: Festive Drinking 2021

I meant it should have been hidden away for a few more years rather than opened so early.

Re: Festive Drinking 2021

A friend and I were out last week. We went back to his flat where he suddenly announced ‘I’ve got something that only you would appreciate…’ He opened one of those Waitrose 2017 vintages by Quinta de la Rosa. I said he was best leaving it but he was pretty insistent. Luckily it had been upright all ...

Re: Portugal Vineyards

Thanks all. How much is the standard duty on, say, a £20 bottle? Sorry if this is a silly question. Cheers

Re: More Cocktail Ports: Cockburn Tails

I bought all three about 3 weeks ago and not touched them yet. No email to say when to expect them; the caretaker brought them to my room at work. Surprised they weren’t broken with the packaging. The design is really top and would look great adorning any back bar. I’m not holding out much on the co...

Re: Your advice?

Greetings! and welcome to the forum. The range of LBVs offered by the supermarkets is small and a bit repetitive. I personally like buying from Portugal Vineyards, who ship directly from Portugal at reasonable prices, and are very friendly and efficient. They are currently offering no fewer than 76...

Re: 1997 Quinta do Passadouro

Delicious and a real celebration port if on a budget. Got this for about £50 I think. Colour resembling older tawny, burnt red-ish. Alcohol is prevalent; clouds the after-taste at times unfortunately. Big fruity nose and overal lots of fruit. Couldn’t put it down. Decanted for 4 hours and got much b...

Your advice?

Hello there. I’m a new member having been told about this fine forum via a member on Instagram. I’m a chap in my mid-30s in Leeds, England. I’ve liked port all my adult life and have tried to educate myself a little about it. I’m interested in hearing your recommendations on bottles of port that are...
