Re: An Evening of Port with the Symington's, Thursday 1st December 2022

…and 2023’s version of this is now up: https://www.bbr.com/products-9006800119 ... ember-2023

Slightly different format by the looks of it - more walkaround-y.

As I sadly missed this last year, I’ll be going.

Re: Latest buy

2x double mags of Fonseca '09 - £150ea from Seckford. One for a friend, one for me. Not sure when on earth it'll be drunk, but without tempting fate there's plenty of time for the right occasion to arise!

Re: Port for sale by retailer

A wine-lover's estate appears to be being sold at my (old) local auction house in Cambridge which includes, amongst other things, some interesting bottles of port at lots 160 - 185 for any gamblers out there.

Re: Latest buy

12x Dow ‘94, at what I thought was a very good price of £40 per bottle IB. From the Nickolls and Perks sale.

Otto’s

Just to say a thank you to this forum in general - I heard of Otto’s solely through reading some old tasting summaries on here, and thought that we’d give it a go for my birthday this evening. It was excellent! So cheers all round

Re: Latest buy

6x Vesuvio 1998. £33 each from BBX (a winesearcher notification pinged me). Tasting notes on this are fairly divided, but sounds like it’s drinking well now and could go another 20 years tops - in which case I’ll work my way through it in that timeframe. But anybody with experience please let me kno...

Re: 1990 Rieussec halves - some for sale...

I'd also happily take 4 - though I'm London based without a car so if I can't pick them up via the tube/etc. I'll have to drop out of the running.

Re: Latest buy

Graham's 2011, 1 case of 6.

From a speculative BBX bid that I'd long forgotten about, so pretty happy with the price (and of course, provenance).

Re: Latest buy

6x Fonseca 1985 (0 points for originality!) And 3x Vesuvio 1996 magnums (fun!) that I wasn’t looking for but popped up for what seemed a good price. I was never lucky enough to be given any birth year port either so thought that I might as well do it myself! With thanks to all who posted on my threa...

Re: Post-2000s ports for the future

Lots of really good advice on here so far. I'll try not to muck it up. The 80's are definitely good and relatively cheap. I'd go with anythng Graham's in the 80's either the regular VP or the Malvedos. '80 Dow is a killer Port and can be found for under US $100 at auction. A real sleeper IMO are th...

Re: Post-2000s ports for the future

Hi. I'm in a similar boat to both you and Rich so a few thoughts I've had on acquiring VP. Recent releases of VP are expensive. Regularly looking at £300-400 IB for half cases (i.e. 6x 750ml bottles). You have already correctly noted that top tier VP around 97-07 is much cheaper, often going for £2...

Post-2000s ports for the future

Hi all - long time lurker around these parts but first time poster. Long story short, I'm looking to purchase some VP for the medium/long term. I've been very lucky to drink a fair amount of VP both young-ish and relative old (60s) and would describe myself as a uninformed enthusiast. I've recently ...
