I have had 3 ideas for a tasting later this year and am wondering if one of these would be worth organising: 1 - a Ramos Pinto vertical. I cannot see one having happened recently but might have missed. 2 - Unknown port before 1945. I think several of us will have a bottle or two of pre 1945 port of...

Note that this is Tom's year of birth so it might be nice to save a spot for him while we give him a nudge.
I have at home BN, Fe, Ni (only one bottle, which might be needed for the F v Ni tasting), N, Rs, RV, Sb and T. In storage I also have Ck.

Has anyone else been following Victor Marques’s posts on FaceBook. I’ve heard about the problems in the Douro (and most wine producing regions) with too many grapes being grown and not enough wine being drunk, but this is the first time I’ve seen anyone actively and publicly lobbying about it. Depending on how long you have, consider hiring a car for a day and driving through the Trossachs to Loch Katrine or taking a day trip on a train over to Fort William - which would take you over the Glenfinnan Viaduct (which was famous before the Harry Potter films!)

Jerez as a town is a bit of a sad place. The out-of-town shopping centre has ripped the heart out of the city and there are an awful lot of empty shops. But there are still places to visit. Sassicaia 2015. Pop and pour. I was expecting a bit of a brute of a wine. Instead I got something rich and expressive with a glorious palate built around exquisite fruit. I am one of those who disagree. If I buy a bottle at retail prices, I expect to pay a premium compared to buying at auction or in a private sale. That premium is the retailer’s risk premium for the possibility of the product not being fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. Some of the risk sho...

Usual practice for me is morning decant, into cool decanter, kept cool by ice packs. But I’m bringing a Graham LBV (bot. 2001), as donated by Harry, and likewise a Tesco 1995 doesn’t need a twelve-hour decant. I propose: • 7am for the Warre Cavadinha 1995, and kept cool; • After lunch (so in my off...

When you bought the bottles, was there anything on the paperwork which made it clear these bottles were being sold with no recourse if they proved to be defective?
UK consumer law gives a retail buyer quite a lot of protection if goods are sold which are not fit for purpose or not as described.
