Re: Quinta de la Rosa LBV and Vintage POSTPONED

On the plus side I might have my second jab by then so will join the waiting list. Not sure of the rules but does the fact I gave up my place voluntarily put me up the queue; over to Julian and Derek. Most definitely. Or at least it would if I was the organiser, but since I’m not I can’t make the d...

Re: 2019 Symington Vintage Port Review

I too have had the opportunity to taste some 2019 Ports over 3-4 days and offer my thoughts on them below so you can contrast and compare my opinion with Andy's on at least the SFE wines. Cockburn Canais 10,000 cases produced. Bottled in 75cl, 150cl and 300cl format. Wonderfully pure fruit on the no...

Re: 1980 Horizontal, DATE TBC, B&F

I think it's something to do with the Euro 2020 - I received a marketing email from Davy's today inviting me to watch England on a TV in a Davy's Wine Bar.

I'm too busy watching cricket. Currently watching the live TV broadcast from Taunton of Somerset v Surry in a T20 match.

2001 Royal Oporto LBV

Dictated by Justin Half bottle; no bottling date printed on the label but believed to have been bottled in very early 2007. Sealed with a T-stopper so presumed to be filtered but decanted off a significant amount of sludgy sediment. Quite dark in colour, surprisingly so for a 20 year old LBV. Soft b...

Did the B&F give any indication as to why they were not going to be open on Wednesday 23rd?

I am in that minority!

I’d rather have two tastings each of 14-16 different Ports than one tasting of 28-32 different wines.

Yes please.

Poor excuse Glenn. You can use your phone. I’ve read that even California’s telecom system supports smartphones. Or is the truth that you will be too busy drinking fine mature vintages of Napa reds to make time for us. :-(

I’d like the virtual tastings to continue too. It’s nice to be able to see people like Glenn, Will, Justin, Harry, Rich and occasionally Andy and others who can’t make the physical tastings very often.

Checking what I have was a bit of a surprise - not in storage I have only the Vesuvio 1997.

Available from duty paid storage I also have BB&R Selection (Warre) in magnum, Martinez, Martinez Eira Velha, Graham, Smith Woodhouse.

NV Churchill Reserve Ruby

Churchill Reserve Ruby NV: a bottle from the first Churchill Port Club pack (yes, we bought more than one). Dark plum red colour. Soft and sweet strawberry on the nose, fragrant. Beautiful balance on the palate, elegant fruit with a nice mid-weight palate. Good levels of acidity and a soft tannin ch...

1966 Fonseca

Opened and Audouzed for 12 hours, decanted for 1 hour before a quality assurance sip taken. Warm, mature red colour, 60% opaque. A nose of slightly burnt cherries, perhaps a hint of bottle stink. Warm and spicy on the palate with a fine balance, delivering mature cherry fruit in an elegant package s...

2012 Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello

Decanted at 15.30, returned to the original bottle at 17.30, drunk at 20.00: such an exquisite perfume! Perfect balance on the palate with the perfumed fruit dancing over the fine-grained tannin. So young, but so beautiful. Warm, floral - astonishing! 96/100. Drunk 03-Jun-21. Decanted 4½ hours. Revi...

2010 Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs

Decanted at 15.30, returned to the original bottle at 17.30, drunk at 20.00: opaque with a narrow rim. Warm cherry nose. Light in texture on entry, rich cherries and a fabulous fennel-toned fine-grained tannin. Youthful, but starting to mature; dry core, refined and very elegant. Such a wonderful pe...

2013 Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello Chardonnay

Opened and allowed to stand in the glass for 30 minutes: pale lemon yellow with an amazingly fragrant nose. So beautiful! Smooth on the palate with a lovely weight, big and rich, full of tropical fruit. Complete and wonderfully together. Lychee finish, great length. This is a stunning and pure Chard...
