Re: Coates & Seely - 20% Discount for TPF Members

I believe that the 20% discount is no longer valid. Friends now receive a 15% discount on the NV blends.

Re: New to TPF

Welcome Dan, good to have you join us.

As and when you open a bottle and taste things, do let us know what you think of the wine you’re drinking. I’ve never tried the Fletcher’s LBV you’ve just bought and always like to hear about good value Ports.

Re: Latest buy

I love the Warre Bottle Matured LBVs. I haven’t tried the Fletcher’s. Please do tell us what you think of it when you open it.

NV Quinta da Devesa 10YO Tawny (bottled 2019)

Bottled 2019. Deep rich colour, a dark bronze; 30% opaque. Bright and vibrant nose, marzipan and pistachio combined with a lovely red apple; very fragrant. Slightly thick texture with generous honey and cinder toffee; a little burnt toast at the edges but there is good acidity which ensures the pala...

NV Quinta da Devesa 10YO Tawny (bottled 2019)

Bottled in 2019. Polished red cedar in colour. Delicious toffee and caramel nose, sweet and slight floral perfume. Slight lavender polish on the palate, a touch of bitterness balancing the late caramel; great levels of acidity with the honey and cranberry all combining to give a wonderful full and r...

NV Croft Pink

Croft Pink NV: little in the nose, soft strawberry palate; light and a little over-extracted. Plasticiser aftertaste. Better than in the past, but not my kind of Port. 80/100. 10-Apr-21.

NV Cockburn Crusted bottled 1964

A deep, rich mature brick red. Lots of sweet cocktail cherry on the nose. The sweet cherry follows onto the palate, dense and very flavoursome. Cherry aftertaste, but infused with gentle cinnamon and a very long finish. A delicious Port. 91/100. Decanted 1 hour. Drunk 11-Mar-21

1967 Cockburn

Joanna label from Berry Brothers & Rudd. Opened with tongs at 09.00 to Audouze and decanted at 14.30. A bottle which had started to seep very slightly and was found to have a split running the length of the cork when opened. Mid-brick red, 40% opaque. Initially very hot and spirity but with an addit...

NV Churchill 20YO Tawny (bottled 2019)

Bottled 2019. Orange rim and a red core; 30% opaque. Sweet apples and soft pears on the nose Slightly thicker in texture than many 20 year old tawnies. Still showing a little red fruit on the palate, a palate which has a nice intensity of flavour. Good balance to the wine with some cinder toffee ton...

I’m trying - and generally succeeding - not to buy much Port these days but I did succumb to temptation and bought 3 bottles of Taylor 1963 and 3 bottles of Taylor 1955.

Re: Informal Outdoor Tasting: St James’ Park, 17 July 2021

Given the change in the date for removal of all social distancing regulations, the picnic in St James's Park would seem to be the first large (but no more than 30!) Port Forum event of 2021.

Are we still planning for it to happen?

It's fairly well known that I am a sucker for the Vesuvio (and Warre) styles - I love that balanced mouthful of fruit they both seem to provide me, which just hits my sweet spot.

On the plus side I might have my second jab by then so will join the waiting list. Not sure of the rules but does the fact I gave up my place voluntarily put me up the queue; over to Julian and Derek. Most definitely. Or at least it would if I was the organiser, but since I’m not I can’t make the d...

Re: 2019 Symington Vintage Port Review

I too have had the opportunity to taste some 2019 Ports over 3-4 days and offer my thoughts on them below so you can contrast and compare my opinion with Andy's on at least the SFE wines. Cockburn Canais 10,000 cases produced. Bottled in 75cl, 150cl and 300cl format. Wonderfully pure fruit on the no...

Re: 1980 Horizontal, DATE TBC, B&F

I think it's something to do with the Euro 2020 - I received a marketing email from Davy's today inviting me to watch England on a TV in a Davy's Wine Bar.

I'm too busy watching cricket. Currently watching the live TV broadcast from Taunton of Somerset v Surry in a T20 match.

2001 Royal Oporto LBV

Dictated by Justin Half bottle; no bottling date printed on the label but believed to have been bottled in very early 2007. Sealed with a T-stopper so presumed to be filtered but decanted off a significant amount of sludgy sediment. Quite dark in colour, surprisingly so for a 20 year old LBV. Soft b...
