Just so that you know, Christopher, I sent Andy a message on Feb 16. He responded and we're now communicating by email.

Re: The 1980s & quality
I’d also avoid F80, but only because it’s not a great wine. Perhaps it’s one for you to buy and try so you can make up your own mind. In my experience, F80 is often very similar to Fr80. Which makes for a very strange Fonseca, but still leaves an often quite nice Ferreira-like Port. Don't go in exp...

What, you can't just have Zoom on a side monitor and sit there and drink Port at your desk like I do?Andy Velebil wrote: ↑16:14 Fri 17 Feb 2023 I’ll put it on the calendar, but as the 8 hr time change not sure I’ll be able to get day off work yet. Re: Lodges again
Incidentally, I notice that when you visited they had two brands of 20YOT for sale by the bottle. I wonder what the difference between them is? Duque de Braganca is just an older bottling of Dona Antonia. They are allegedly exactly the same Port. I don't recall off the top of my head when they chan...

Re: The Warre 2006 LBV mystery
We do tend to get different years in the US than you get in Europe, but it's normally not exclusive and the releases tend to leak back and forth regardless. I don't see 2006 or 2007 in the US... we appear to skip from 2005 straight to 2008. Off the top of my head I don't recall much of interest from...

Interesting... the Ferreira 20 YO used to be (when it was called Duque de Braganca) one of the better ones! Hopefully it was just off for whatever reason.

I'm in! I have a paid Zoom account and can host if people would prefer Zoom. For now, at least, I have no meetings scheduled during the day on March 30.

Re: Hotel or Restaurant Price List of the Week
The style of Bioma is not what Glenn prefers in a port so it’s no wonder he’s not a fan as much as others. Just saying. Actually, I find Bioma more pleasant than regular Niepoort Vintage Ports. It's certainly not on par with Graham or Vesuvio or Fonseca for me, but in this case I don't think that's...

I've always had this wine, the 1987 Vargellas, and the 1985 Graham as my top 3 from the 1980s. It's a fabulous wine and will likely out-live all of us.

Re: Hotel or Restaurant Price List of the Week
The oddball (to me) in that tasting is the Bioma. I realize that the Pisca vineyard is old vines, but the wine made from it is not on the same level as the other 3 super cuvees in that flight. Dirk has always made the Bioma as a super-selected, super-special super-cuvée with the intention that’s it...

Re: Hotel or Restaurant Price List of the Week
100 ml pours seem quite generous to me - that's comfortably over 3 oz! I'm used to 2.5 oz over here or 70-75 ml. Quevedo's 90 ml bottles from the Advent calendar seemed very healthy, so 100 ml would be excellent. I'd have probably gone with the VV tasting as well. The oddball (to me) in that tasting...

Re: Lodges again
I second LaDo - Maria will take very good care of you! Outside of lodge tours, LaDo and Baccus Vini are the two places that I consistently recommend. You shouldn't need a reservation for Baccus Vini (and I don't even know if they'll take them), and Maria will take great care of you there, too. Diffe...

I can liaise you to the swedish guys, Glen. They might be able to locate this. I have tasted this in DK some years ago. A delightful Port, but at the very end of its drinking plateau. Thank you Axel, that would be wonderful! In other news, I have just arranged to purchase a 1964 Messias LBV (bottle...

Re: Please help me find a 1964 Dow Bomfim
The Poças is a Colheita, and a pretty good one at that. Rivals the Noval Colheita for the best of the vintage. There is also a Dow Vintage Reserve (read: Colheita) and I have a handful of those as well, so you have to be very careful when looking at listings. I'm therefore assuming you're 7* bottles...

Please help me find a 1964 Dow
Next year is a... uh, significant birthday for me. I am attempting to put together a full horizontal of 1964 Vintage Ports to celebrate! That's both easier and more difficult than it sounds. Easier because there are only 7* bottles needed so it's not a huge selection, but more difficult because ther...

Re: NV Quady Starboard Batch 88
I think a lot of Americans aren't aware of what Port really is, so see it at a store (or, more likely, at the winery) and pick up a bottle or two. They probably have no clue that it a) isn't as good as real Port, and b) is more expensive than real Port. It's an oddity so they give it a try.
