Re: 1980 Dow
This is a disappointing showing. I have been seduced by this bottling in the past. Despite being a very pleasant drink, it was always promising more to come. Thank you for the note. I am of a mind to try one when it is cool enough again.

Re: The Port Forum Port Bucket List
My wishlist is to try a Noval Nacional that will fascinate my taste buds. Barring that, I'd love to do a horizontal of the 55's as the only 55's I've had are the cockburn and the dow's which was graciously opened by Uncle Tom I admire your ambition! The 55 vintage is, in my opinion, the ne plus ult...

What a lovely event.
Would it be correct in saying that there was a significant difference in scores between magnum and Tappit Hen bottlings for the two Houses that allowed comparison? If so, I wonder how a larger bottling of Taylors or Fonseca would have performed!

Re: Corked/Spoilt Ports - Name and Shame
A 1996 Quinta do Vesuvio was mute on first pour and confirmed as corked by the better half. With port stocks in the Aussie cellar dwindling, this was a very sad turn of events. Thankfully the first of six to disappoint, with six still to go. My condolences. A bit warm for port this time of year isn...

2003 Quinta de la Rosa
D+1 hour. Dense opaque red with some paling at the rim. Savory herb on the nose. Pressed lamb's tongue with a hint of caramel (If you asked me if I would ever type that sentence then I would say the odds were against). Fiery, brambly palate that sits forward in the mouth. Integrated, almost herbal f...

Re: Which LBVs are worth cellaring?
I think the information here is marvellous. Particularly the houses to explore. I personally think of crusted and LBV ports as singing to a similar hymn sheet; an accessible vintage port style. Now a crusted does it via blending vintage ports including some with some age, whereas an LBV does it with...

While I have been concerned about the tenor of the palate, I have not been concerned about longevity. Does a vintage port need to exclusively demonstrate 'stuffing' to cellar?

Some lovely bottles there. There would be some concern with the levels however as it suggests that they would have been subject to some temperature variation over the last 50 or so years.

Re: The order of australia association
Langtons Wine Auctions (and other Australian auction houses) have a database of prices paid. This particular 'port' would not be worth much for the contents but the bottle may have some significance to some people. They may pay enough at auction for you to afford a Black cab fare for about 250 meter...

Elementary schoolboy error: Failing to appreciate that the magnificence of large format bottles of port will override all sense of restraint, fiscal or otherwise.

Re: Cooking with Port
Asked Rebecca for the recipe. Based (very) loosely on Rosemary Shrager's version in the Castle Cook cookbook. Go to Scotland. Obtain a venison haunch (we obtained ours from Inveraray but no doubt forumites may wish to shoot their own) and 2 bottles of port (1 of tawny and 1 of LBV) Drink half the bo...

Glorious! Yes indeed that is what wine is for and Port moreso.
I was treated to a 1995 Y'quem this New Year's Eve just gone, brought by a friend as he knew that I liked wine. Different order of magnitude yet a similar sentiment was shown.
