Re: 1970 Sandeman VP

I also recently popped on of these. Cork was destroyed and ah-so could not manage it. Decanted for approximately 12 hours and it was just starting to hit it's stride. I'd recommend a longer decant, perhaps as long as 24 hours. Once the heat blew off, there was loads of fruit left and little evidence...

Whew!! I made it!

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

I'm in Woodley/Reading if anyone is coming from out this way, I'd love to meet up on the train, unless there is a better method for getting into town. Email me at keytohwy at gmail.

See you all soon!

I'm still looking to adopt. It'd be easier than brining something from San Francisco, but I'm still prepared to do that if necessary.

Re: Fiftieth Anniversary - Wednesday 19th May

I'll most likely be alone, but will firm that up closer to the date. No 60's in my cellar, but I'll look around. Do two 85's equal a 60? The tasting will be limited to 14 people so we may not be able to add a +1 later. Sorry, this will be a 1960 line-up only but we are likely to have some bottles t...

Coming to UK in May...are Yanks allowed in? keytohwy No problem - just don't come over with a supply of chocolate and stockings and try to steal all our women   Your name will be added to the list. Will you be alone or do you need to reserve a +1? Derek Fair enough. Both of my grandfathe...

Re: forum decorum question

Start a new thread in the tasting note section, but check out the note here first: http://www.theportforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=133 To enable Julian to index the notes correctly, your thread title should read "Cockburn 1970 vintage port" Other than that, do your own thing, and tell...

forum decorum question

I plan on taking notes on my 1970 Cockburn tonight and sharing with TPF. Should I start a new Cockburn 1970 thread, or add to the existing one? I don't want to step out of bounds here, s I'm new and all

Re: Opening a 1970

anyone wanna guess when I was born? January? 4th?! Wow, you guys were going for exact dates. Actually, I was born in December (1970), but with a pregnant wife, due in December, we delayed the opening and accompanying dinner until now. So now we'll be joined at dinner by my 2 week old daughter! keyt...

Re: When is port in a drinking window?

The first VP I had was the 94 Fonseca in 2005. There were certainly no tannins there, and yet, it has a ton of time left.

Opening a 1970

As I had posted before, I'm ready to open a Cockburn 1970. Having sought feedback, I'm going to decant half tonight and then rebottle half in a 375. Tomorrow, I'll decant the 375 approx. 6 hours before serving. Therefore, I'll have a course with the 24 hour decant, and a course with the 6 hour decan...

Re: About to open a 1970

http://www.theportforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=14693 uncle tom recommends what seems like 22 hours for a less spirity taste. if you like the spiciness you might want to aim for 5-6 hours decanting. Maybe this... 22 hours or so before consumption, open the bottle and immediately pour half into a 375 an...

About to open a 1970

I'm about to crack open a bottle of 70. I want to serve this to friends, if possible, at it's finest.

What do you all recommend as a good benchmark time for decanting? Again, I'd like to decant in advance, and serve the best port I can.

Thanks in advance,

Re: Hello, world!

Hello keytohwy, welcome to the port forum, it's great that you've decided to go from lurking to posting. You may not have many bottles of port - but you have sure chosen four good ones to start with. When you do make it to the UK, be sure to let us know and we will give you a proper port welcome. A...

Hello, world!

Hello, all! I've been lurking for a while, but finally signed up for a "real" account. Wish I could drink port more often, but I'm stocking up for a time when I can. Currently I have: 1970 Croft 1977 Dow's 1994 Dow's 1994 Fonseca It was the 94 Fonseca that I had a friend's house that got m...
