Picking up a case of '78 Taylor Crusted won at auction this week. Suppose to be SOS, but do not know how bad. I assume it's minor, or least hope

The price was right!

Compared to the 85 Graham, the 83 is a little lackluster. I wouldn't pay over $70 for the '83, but would pay $150 for a magnum.

Fonseca 83 is probably the best 83 I can think of off hand...

20's - 2 hours decant max 30's - 3 hours decant max... 70's - 7 hours decant max... If you had used the word 'min' instead of 'max' I would be more inclined to concur. Sorry for the confusion. I meant "max" in terms of letting a port sit before initially trying it. Don’t decant the ’27 wi...

I noticed on this weekend's 80 Warre and 80 Taylor Magnum, both wines were "easier drinking" the next day. We only drank about 60% of the magnum, so there was enough both nights. The Taylor intensity cooled down, but was a softer, lovely port. The Warre's fruit more pronounced actually and...

Had this over the weekend in magnum format. Still showing fruit and not as powerful as other Taylor vintages. Well balanced. This is just the beginning for this vintage.

Although I have not had this port yet I would venture to say 20 year minimum; 50-100 probably more like it. Taylor's age well.

You got one heck of a deal at that price!

Re: Old Croft: tangerines.

Good question. Of course, drinking everything is recommended. Meanwhile: • Old Croft: tangerines. • Cockburn: cherries. Young Cockburn black cherries; old Cockburn glacé cherries. Taylor is usually easy to pick out with pepper and power to it. Dow can be a little dry, except I find the 77 to sweete...

My best bets are:

Sandeman 20 year at NH Liquor store for $35,

Dow's Crusted Port (I think 1999) $25

Dow's Quinta Bonfim 1995 $25

1980 Sandeman Vintage which I have bought a several $35

Re: Ramos-Pinto 1982

Ramos-Pinto 1985 at $26ish a bottle. Except that I bought all of it. (Though there is some Ramos-Pinto 1982 at that shop : any New Yorkers fancy a split?) Have 3 cases of RP 85 from the same place. What whack job place that is. I've called them for more, and just get the run from the people that wo...

I'd be happy to contribute to a Delaforce vertical in NYC or Boston this summer.

I have the 94 Vintage and could possible find something else too?

I can '77 Delaforce at any point should we have a vertical.

Delaforce has the OWC and labels of any port brand. They look like the offical royal port of Portugal or something.

It would travesty if Delaforce disappeared from the market. Luckily I have case 94's... That well may be the last great Delaforce vintage.

Urnex Cafiza soap will clean a decanter with no problem at all. It is used to clean coffee pots and espresso machine parts. I use it on my decanters with no problems.

Even a clean coffee pot that has never been washed with Cafiza will turn the water brown!

Yuck

In my mid 20's, I had a roommate that drank a bottle of that about every night! They use to package it with two port glasses (very small ones), and after a year, we had so many port glasses I could not contain them all.

This stuff is way to sweet and sugary for me.

Re: F83

Musty nose, with cherries—though not the Cockburn nose I encountered here . Good length, with cough mixture and candy. I noticed a musty nose that blew off on the two bottles of F83 I have had so far. Same for the length and concentration. Since the must disappeared after a couple of hours, I did ...

When looking for a single quinta wine, I tend to discount Vesuvio, Vargellas and Noval and consider these to be more akin to top shippers than a cheap single quinta. I agree, I would shop them the same intent as Dow, Ramos, Ferreira, and Warre. Certainly the price might be lower with most SQ's but ...
