If you like the Ramos Pinto style, all of their ports from the 80's are good to great.

Think of the '94 Croft how it tastes today vs how an '85 Croft tasted 10 years ago.

Re: 1985 Fonseca
I've always had this wine, the 1987 Vargellas, and the 1985 Graham as my top 3 from the 1980s. It's a fabulous wine and will likely out-live all of us. I'd swap the '83 Graham's for the '85 Graham's, but you can't go wrong with either. I'd also throw the '86 Graham's Malvedos into the mix. I'd rank...

Re: Festive Drinking 2022
'85 Ferreira last night that was almost completely clear. Hardly the first time this has happened with a Ferreira. Tasted like there was nothing left to it. Not a ton of sediment in the bottle either. Was served along with a '99 Musar White that took forever and a day to open up. Not the most flatte...

Re: 2016 Messias LBV
Not a brand I am striving to buy port from. Never had a Messias that wow'd me. Hard to find in my locale, but other parts of the States seem to sell it more commonly.

Re: Sandeman Port on Fox News
Can’t see Mateus Rose being an obvious choice for those parts of the USA which have freezing cold winters! (Also: this has made me look at its technical specification. The blend is said to be Baga; Rufete; Tinta Barroca; and Touriga Franca which I thought was interesting: I wasn’t expecting it to h...

Re: Sandeman Port on Fox News
Papa Figo & Mateus Rose don’t immediately scream “Halloween” to me! (Or even Autumn / Fall for that matter...). From the range it sounds like a promotion for Sogrape: did they say anything interesting? Each wine was paired with a candy or treat. She said that Sandeman has been making port for a...

Sandeman Port on Fox News
On "Fox and Friends" this morning there was a segment on wines for Halloween. All of the wines promoted were from Portugal including Sandeman 10 year tawny. Others included Papa Figo white and Mateus Rose among others.

Re: Amontillado Sherry
I am casual fan of Amontillado and Oloroso. Whenever I see a deal on either from Lustau or reminded somehow I need some; I buy it. Lasts longer in the fridge the port, can cook with it more than port. Port and sherry are too far apart for me to consider them competing for my attention.

Re: The 1980s & quality
It's interesting to compare an '83 or '85 Graham were twenty years ago against how a '94 Graham tastes today. The '83 & '85 seemed more mature than the '94 does today. Better/cleaner wine making & higher quality spirit?

Re: The 1980s & quality
'85 Croft use to be a joke, but I think it's come around a lot from reviews a decade or so ago. Ferreira's & Ramos Pinto 1980's vintages are all good. Same for Gould Campbell and some others. It's more of "which 1980's vintages should I avoid?" '83 Cockburn is the most obvious example.

Welcome Ben. Fun video. '63 GC is an uncommon bottle today from a great name. Not sure I've ever had that one.
