Kitchen gas burner is not up to the job of heating tongs IMO. Fireplace does it for sure. Kitchen gas burner can be fine, provided the end ring on your port tongs is not too thick, and you wait long enough for the heat-up; it does take a while, patience is key to avoiding frustration. What is the optimal volume of a glass from which to drink red Port. If relevant, assume non-old: maybe LBV, maybe crusted, or still-primary VP. For me it depends on the size of the pours, and of course suitable glass shape, as aroma is important - I don't want a glass where the aroma is not/barely ...

I love the idea of this; maybe it was a blend of their favourite shippers, or just what they had left from each cask after the main bottling, and who knows what the proportions might be. Would love the know the story behind it (did they know the Avery family perhaps?).

But think of the discomfort that some of the poor champagne corks must be feeling through their hips maintaining such an angle, particularly those who have withered, dried or shrunk and can no longer maintain such a broad-based mushroom. And their caps keep falling off. Can't anyone provide succor?
