Re: Vesuvio sales at Christies

Looking at my purchases I am not surprised 1995 was the most popular I picked a few of these cases up over the years at reasonable rates. A nice drop too!

Post 2000 Vesuvio is a lot rarer in the secondary market, I don't know if they are making less or it is selling 'quicker'?

What fun you will have. I am sure someone can give you a better answer than me on the subtleties you have queried :)

I would recommend getting a Taylors and Noval LBV and then comparing them, Taylors is on offer in some supermarkets right now and Noval might be too. Both are fun and accessible.

Travel shock, is it real and how long does it last?

Ignore me if I'm having a moment! Anyway I have an observation that younger ports appear to go through a travel shock period (or perhaps time is masking the development). Why? Well being impatient I try newly delivered ports and they miss my expectation, however after some time (say a year) I am sur...

D0 brick red rim, crystal clear rich magenta with a figgy nose. Rewarding in the mouth, sweet fruit, caramel, spice and a surprising wallop of alcohol with a hint of acid. D0 - very dark magenta, impenetrable. Subdued nose, alcohol and savoury red fruit are there but masked a bit. I don't have enough experience to tell if it will come together in time and really "sing". I get the impression it is young off the bat and even after 24 hours it is not what I would call balanced. It was cheap enough that I am not disappointed but it could be better.

Just popped, out of storage in a UK ambient bonded warehouse. T0: Rich colour, quite "thick" looking (in the way port sometimes looks a little thick), slightly orange on the rim when swirled in the glass. Spirity nose subsides over 5-10 mins and red fruits start to dominate. Oak and tannin...
