Re: June 2016 NYC 50s 70s tasting

I will be around but have three dinners that week already so not the best date choice. If you have some dry Portuguese wines, my wife will come, but she hates drinking that cough syrup.

Re: Eleven to the dozen

I dropped a bottle of 1951 Offley on my cellar floor, but I never worked for Sandeman, so I declare, "Not it."

New York Suburbs, Sunday, May 29

I have emailed or spoken to some of you already, but in case I missed you, we are having an epic wine gathering in my back yard on Sunday, May 29. Port, Cabernet, Chardonnay, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Roussane, Marsane, Viognier, Nebbiolo, Zinfandel, Sangoivese, Merlot. We'll even allow Pinot Noir...

fresh dipped chocolate covered bacon for dessert. Did you know that fresh-dipped chocolate-covered bacon for dessert protects against smallpox? Very healthy indeed — should be part of every child’s immunisation program. And I need a booster shot. The proof is here: http://www.wineberserkers.com/for...

Re: Friday 01 April 2016, Lupulo NYC, Graham

Since there were a variety of complaints about how Jeff did not show up, I will give him another chance, or perhaps give you another chance to meet him if he shows up. We will be having a massive wine gathering the weekend of Memorial Day including Sunday May 29 in my back yard. It will be a wine fr...

Yes. We got it. Very nice. My wife, who was not there, would have loved it. She's big on not-ports from Portugal. I just never got a photo of the bottle so I did not remember what it was and couldn't write a note about it.

THE PORT FORUM DOES GRAHAMS VP IN NYC

THE PORT FORUM DOES GRAHAMS VP IN NYC - Lupulo Restaurant, NYC (4/1/2016) The Port Forum put together a Grahams semi-vertical to welcome Daniel Jewesbury of Belfast, Ireland, to New York City. He carried with him a 1955 and a 1963. Miguel added a 1970, 1977 and 1983, while I managed to snag a 1985 ...

Re: New York again, Easter

I decanted the 1985 at 2 pm this afternoon. I will pour back into the bottle at about 6 pm. The Port came out clean with little crud through unbleached cheesecloth, but when I rinsed out the bottle, there was a ton of crap in the bottom. The bottle had been sitting upright in my office for about 10 ...

Re: New York again, Easter

Anyone up for infanticide? I just found a lot at the Zachy's auction that is "mixed port" with a bottle of 2003 Graham thrown in. The lot is: 1 Warres Quinta Da Cavadinha 1995 750ml 2 Taylor Fladgate Quinta de Vargellas 1995 750ml 1 Taylor Fladgate 1997 375ml 1 Fonseca 1997 375ml 1 Warres ...

I won the bid on the 1985 Grahams at the auction that closed today, so i can bring that. I have not seen the bottle yet but I should be able to have it at my office by the end of the week.

Re: New York again, Easter

OK. I am trying to buy a 1985, which is the only Grahams that is available at the current Acker Internet Auction. I have generally had good luck with Port from that auction in the past. So long as one of the rest of you does not stomp on my bid, I should get that - although there is this one guy who...

Re: New York again, Easter

I need an excuse to open one of my 1994 Fonsecas since I have had them since release and I have never tasted it, and my wife hates port so we do not drink it at home. This could be an excuse.

Sounds like fun. Maybe I can avoid another gall bladder removal this March. I have only one, right? I have no opinion on horizontal, vertical, diagonal or round the maypole. I think we will be better off with the private room because it will give us more peace and quiet to savor the wines, but I will go with the flow, so to speak. As to menu, whatever other people decide is fine with me.

Re: NY Dow Tasting (2011)

. . . would Saturday March 19th be possible? It happens that it is also the night of Purim, a day when we jews are SUPPOSED to get drunk . . . I concur. An excellent choice. I had planned to have another wine bash that evening to celebrate the holiday, but it fell through, so I vote for the 19th. I...

Re: NY Dow Tasting (2011)

I am interested. It depends on the exact date but it looks good for now. The only Dow I have in my collection is the 2000. I would be willing to sacrifice a bottle of that on the altar of educational curiosity if the infanticide will not upset too many people.
