Re: Cavadinha, Tue 28th March 2023, B&F
Sorry, I can’t make this any more, please remove me from the attendees and offer up my place. I wasn’t down to contribute a specific bottle, so hopefully straightforward.

Re: Hotel or Restaurant Price List of the Week
Could Sandeman Seixo work? It’s probably also not in the same premium category like the others either.
Still - delighted to see such a good selection on offer.

I read this as 4 x 25 ml pours! Happy to be corrected though.
400 mL of VVV for £49 is about £90 per bottle, so less than retail?

Re: Port for sale by retailer
It’s fair to say that I haven’t ever drunk it blind or even at a tasting with other Ports so my impression my be completely wrong. However, if we were comparing it to “any 20 year old”, I’d take the Kranemann, Kopke, Niepoort, or Ramos Pinto over the 40-year-old Fletcher. If we are comparing it to ...

Re: Port for sale by retailer
I was sceptical of the Fletcher’s 40yo, until I did a blind comparison to Graham 20yo. I preferred the Fletcher’s.

1967 Kopke Colheita (bottled 2016)
Opened and tasted 19th Oct 2022.
Sourced from a relatively new wine merchant that has acquired some older stocks.
Wonderful tawny port. Golden-orange colour. Oranges, caramel and a little vanilla. Superb.
Happily unaffected by 6 years in bottle; glad I have a second!

Really disappointing. A big uptick in price and what looks like a substantially worse/more limited line-up to be tasted.

Re: Filtration
Having tried lab-grade filter paper for a while and been frustrated by how slow / clogging it is (and the amount of liquid absorption). I have actually been using a clean, heavily washed, 100% cotton white handkerchief in a funnel for the past couple of years - less of a problem with liquid absorpti...

Axa Millessima and Vintage Wine & Port have both listed 6-packs of Noval 2020, only available DPV, and at £530 and £470 respectively.
It doesn’t look like any have been bought since being listed a couple of weeks ago.

For the Platinum Jubilee long weekend, a bottle of 1977 Sandeman, which is marked with "The Silver Jubilee". Double decanted 5 hours ahead. Well-integrated, Soft and elegant. Mature, not tannic or spirity Some slight musty cardboard (others thought earthy). Enjoyable light red fruits (incl...

Re: 2020 Declarations
Indeed my predicament. I would have banked on Vesuvio and/or a selection of the “normal” major house releases, but looks like a small number of pricey bottles.
Incidentally, not seen the Noval for sale anywhere yet (hat-tip to nac on the G and W/WVV?)

Re: Port brand abbreviations
No objection; one question - per previous discussions, we tend not to assign an abbreviation unless there are at least ~3+ releases of VP; do these both meet that criteria? I recently acquired a bottle of Harvey's 1985 Vintage Port. Wine-searcher tells me that 1985 (image matches the label on my bo...

Re: 1994 Warre (cask sample)
Unfortunately, from the same source, I also had a cask sample half-bottle of Graham 1994. This didn’t show as well as I’d have expected and also had a fairly brief window during which it was enjoyable (very hot after opening, good after a few hours, then faded fast).

Re: 1994 Warre (cask sample)
I've previously tasted the "conventional" W94 at BBR port walks in 2016 and 2019. This was comparable to those two, but noticeably less tannic which I think would be the half-bottle rather than necessarily a cask vs regular bottling.
