Very sorry, I can't make this event. I'm sure it will be fabulous. Happy Birthday to the Software. Will there be cake?

The first edition was fantastic, and on reading the email, I'm quite certain that the second edition will be even better. Looking forward to getting my hands on it. Many thanks to Mr (Dr, clearly worthy of a PhD) Wiseman for such a fabulous book.

Re: Pork Pie and Branston Pickle
Sandwiches, yes, good idea. Or perhaps pork pie soldiers dipped into a pot of whizzed up pickle. But the pastry might fall off, so you might have to further deconstruct the pie. And perhaps you like the texture as well as the flavour of pickle, so a complete non starter. And also, the pot might fill...

Re: Topic WHITE aged ports, Tue 17th May 2022
I'm very sorry, but I have to withdraw from this tasting. I got Covid (again) nearly two weeks ago and my sense of taste has gone (again). Wine doesn't taste weird this time, but I only get basic sweet acid tannin, and no complexity at all. I had hoped for a quick recovery, but it is only improving ...

Re: Port in movies, dramas and tv series
In Ricky Gervais’s film, Cemetery Junction, about 15 minutes into it, Matthew Goode is sitting in a front room persuading a couple to buy a life assurance policy. On the mantelpiece behind his head is an empty Sandeman bottle. The camera never got close enough to make out the specific wine. So Matt...

Re: Topic WHITE aged ports, Tue 17th May 2022
Hahaha, the theme took me somewhat by surprise, but in a good way. I have just checked my cellar, and I'm not at all surprised to find I have exactly no suitable White aged Ports. We drank the Quevedo 30 just before Christmas (it was lovely) and just like that, the cellar was dry. That isn't quite t...

Re: Is the secondary market price for Port changing?
I watched the Christie's sale. The prices seemed at times very high, but the wines were originally bought well and stored well, with a long history, which makes them worth a premium. That much premium? Not for some, no. Not for the amended to low shoulder D27. Those bidders were nuts. But for the W6...

Why not. Worth a try. The marketing will need to be carefully thought out. There is certainly a market for big Ozzie reds, so young fruity Ports could have significant appeal.

I’m at home with covid. Was meant to be in Portugal — extremely irritated. The NHS instructs that my “ last day of self-isolation is 2 October 2021 ”. If there are any immuno-vulnerable people attending this tasting, such that the 2nd–6th would be too tight for their needs, then I will withdraw. If...

Crusted is a terrible name and needs working on. Premium Blended Vintage Port, perhaps stating in the blurb on the back which years are blended, might be better?

Very sorry, I am going to have to drop out. Gone down with some form of lurgy, and prefer not to spread it around. I'm having a rubbish winter with far too little Port consumption.
