2003 Vesuvio

The 2003 VPs are just about to go to bed. Very bright red colour with a very good structure. The nose is alike the 2005, but not as intensive as the latter: fruity with black currant. In the mouth there is a very intense Cassis and red currant flavour present with dominating tannins. The aftertaste ...

2000 Vesuvio

In my opinion it is very unfair to line up the 2000 VPs together with some more and less developed VPs as the 2000s are totally in the reduction phase right now. If one is not aware of this, he might come to the conclusion, that the 2000 is not such a good vintage after all. Back to the facts: these...

1997 Vesuvio

The 97 Vesuvio is Dominic Symington's favourite and I do understand why (though mine is still the 94). It is an amazing wine, that just starts to open up again. The nose is quite similar to the 94 with a slight disadvantage of intensity, which might be equal as it continues to develop. In the beginn...

1996 Vesuvio

The 1996 Vesuvio shows a very nice deep red colour. The nose is flowery with a truffle-touch, alcohol present. In the mouth the wine appears smooth with very nice spices and a good supportive alcohol. The tannins are integrated completely. The alcoholic sharpness stays unexpectedly long in the after...

1995 Vesuvio

Nice red colour with a medium structur. The nose is flowery with cloves. On the palate this wine is surprisingly far developed. The palate has an alcoholic sharpness. Pretty short. Definitely one of the weaker Vesuvios, but you don't expect a blockbuster in 95 anyways.

1994 Vesuvio

My personal Vesuvio-Favourite: the 1994 Vintage Port is of almost black colour with a very deep concentration. The nose is very typical for a young VP from an outstanding year: sweetness, alcohol, complexity and concentration without the ability to really pinpoint the individual aromas. On the palat...

1992 Vesuvio

If you would ask me to decide between the split declaration years 91&92 at Vesuvio, I would take 92 every day a week and twice on Sunday. The wine is much more present with a very nice, but not too deep red colour. In the nose I experienced a flowery bouquet with tobacco and coffee. In the mouth...

1991 Vesuvio

You can tell the signs of age when approaching the 91, too. The wine is reddish-brown already. The nose is very retained with a slight note of spices. On the palate you experience a modest fruit note. The aftertaste is quite long, but not overwhelming. Not bad, but â€‟ as the 89 â€‟ no further pot...

1989 Vesuvio

The big thing about the 89 Vesuvio â€‟ apart from being the first Vesuvio made by the Symingtons- is the Douro bake, a taste coming from storing the wine in its barrel-phase in the Douro Valley without proper air conditioning. And yes, there it was: from the first approach it was clear, that the 89...

Conky, totally right: what's the rush, but it was so amazing to see how differently VPs develop which are so close together. And most of them are very good VPs anyway. 95 and 96 are much further ahead than the 94. The 92 is something in between. My suggestion is: let's kick Alex out of bed for organ...

Vesuvio 1997 for 20 GBP

From my sight and the recent experience I made with Vesuvio, I would recommend a buy. Here is the deal: Quinta do Vesuvio 1997 for 20,09 GBP at Justerini. All you have to do is ask for the 1992, which is in the list for this price. Then they tell you, that this the 92 is out of stock. If you ask for...

General Info about Vesuvio

(Ladies and) Gents, during the Vesuvio tasting on October 30th, Dominic Symington told me some quite interesting details about the Quinta which I thought would be of general interest (most of the questions were brought up by Mr. Vesuvio -Alex B- anyways): Vesuvio stopped numbering the bottles becaus...

Derek, don't do it. Maybe you will get gout from it or anything else. Put the bottle aside and read a book or watch TV, I mean: only read a book or watch TV without a glass in your hand. Get a glass of milk instead or Mountain Dew  Think it over: alcohol is never a saver. Axel P.S.: That's all ...

Derek, you lucky guy. This is an absolute fabulous wine, with which I impressed a couple of guys in St. Moritz this year. They brought a Vargellas 2001 and a Panascal 2004 and the unfiltered LBV of Noval was definitely the star of the show whilst being the cheapest of the three as well. Im going for...

1986 Warre Colheita (bottled 2007)

(Bottled 2007) Very clear reddish colour with brown and orange Reflexes. Good Structure. The nose is filled with toffee, coffee and spices; alcohol nicely present. Very good complexity in the mouth with coffee and malt extract. Good aftertaste. This is a good Colheita for a very reasonable price. I ...

1992 Grahams Malvedos

Out of a half bottle. Frederik and Alan, thanks a lot 3 hours and the wine evolved to its max extend. But one after another: On opening the wine seemed to be much lighter than I expected. Nose very reductive, some alcohol and light fruit (red berries). Looked much older to me; more like an 80s. I wa...
