Re: 77@40 from Magnum and Tappit Hen - Wed 1st Feb 2017

We are now down to 14 people, and following discussion at the Noval tasting we will limit to 14 as while we could fit more place mats round the table, any more actual people and it will too cosy! While these 14 people will almost certainly all be thirsty we have almost 20 bottle equivalents of port ...

So here goes:- As at 1st Jan 2017 my cellar is made up of 74% port 18% Bordeaux 3% Rhone 3% Burgundy 2% Italy Of the port 87% is Vintage (includes Vesuvio a...

Re: Decanter Magazine's Top 20 ports for Christmas.

Isn't that the same list from last year?? I think last years was put together by Mr. Mayson but wasn't much different. I think it is actually last year's list - the date of the article in the link is December 2015. But at the bottom of the page it says updated 1/12/16 and the list includes Churchil...

1970 Avery

Purchased in the recent (Oct 16) Christies sale from the Avery family cellar. Glorious bright ruby red 50% opaque. Lots of red fruits, very full with soft tannin noticeable and a little heat. No idea what the blend was but excellent port with much life left in it which made a good accompaniment to t...

Re: 77@40 from Magnum and Tappit Hen - Wed 1st Feb 2017

I'd be surprised if we don't reach or go beyond 14 for this one. Placemats in the first post are on A3 from which 2¾″ is trimmed, making space for one more person on each side. Edit: or have I mis-remembered. Do we usually have 3×A4 per person, or 2×A4? Current version has width of 1.668×A4. These ...

Re: 77@40 from Magnum and Tappit Hen - Wed 1st Feb 2017

I had not planned this as a detailed study of Tappit Hen v Magnum v bottles, more simply a good excuse to open a range of Magnums from the leading shippers in 77, plus potentially the odd Tappit Hen for good measure. My concern is keeping the volume of port vaguely sensible for the number of attende...

77@40 from Magnum and Tappit Hen - Wed 1st Feb 2017

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Waitrose / Waitrose Cellar have their usual 25% off when you buy 6 or more bottles at the moment.

If anyone is interested in 2011 VP they have a number of shippers, of note is Fonseca / Taylor 2011 only £56.25 a bottle delivered when you buy 6.
