Re: Warre's Sesquarcentennial Tasting - Weds 6th Oct 2021 (date confirmed)

I’m at home with covid. Was meant to be in Portugal — extremely irritated. The NHS instructs that my “ last day of self-isolation is 2 October 2021 ”. If there are any immuno-vulnerable people attending this tasting, such that the 2nd–6th would be too tight for their needs, then I will withdraw. If...

Neil,

thanks! Great! Just sent you a mail directly. The e-mails on the TPF system seem not to work.

Hi,

am now confused, can you please confirm I am part of the tasting? You last post and lack of any e-mail and message suggest otherwise.

2019 Niepoort

cask sample, purple blackish colour, tight rim and with an opaque centre, restrained fragrant nose after roses and violets. Very fine taste after cherries and a bit cranberries. Overall a fresh, slightly spicy, moreish fruit taste. The finish develops over time from initially very sweet and closed i...

Have no 08 but have Niepoort Colheita 12 which I think should qualify. At least for me this is the greatest Colheita I drank so far.

Re: NV Asda Reserve Port

Got my hands on 3 bts today. ASDA kindly substituted the initial order quantity down. But they were very nice and all went smoothly at click&collect. JDAW1's assessment is correct. Not a great port but at 3.98£ you cannot go wrong. You notice the watery port apperance when it is running down the...

@winesecretary - good choice on Niepoort 2017! However as JDAW1 has not done it yet; you need to consider having a double magnum section section in your cellar as well. For this format and bigger formats there is also a need e.g. if you are having a disastrous week or friends like JDAW1 popping by f...

Re: I'm going to be having a bad week...

Hmm in my view GC77 is a fantastic port if not TCA contaminated. Some say GC77 share the same base juice as SWC77. SWC77 is not TCA infested though. The statistics of the tasting notes for GC77 do not lie. However the TCA problem can be easily avoided by focussing on GC77 Magnums which are not TCA a...

Re: Informal Outdoor Summer Tasting?

Yep, count me in. In summer I usually drink young VP, Crusted or Tawnies/Colheitas. Older VP imho do not work as well in summer. I should somewhere have mag of Croft 11 that would be perfect. After I misplaced it I should make an effort to relocate it. Hope I have not drunk it and forgotten. Or as D...

We all brought Cockburn 1955. It did make for a splendid dinner. “ A very boring offline ”, as reported. I disagree! It was not a boring offline! Wine and port were nice!
