Re: London in August...

Hi Ben,

as said in the Warre Cavadinha 1987 thread I fear I may not be in London on that Wednesday the 26th.

Will let you know definitely as soon as I know it.

Re: 1987 Quinta da Cavadinha

Hi there, I guess Tom is right, we should rather concentrate on a 1982 horizontal, I should have somewhere here in my flat a Delaforce 1982 (if I can find it ;-((). Also I have Ferreira 1982 which i would need to bring over from my cellar in Germany. This is also possible if we want to proceed. Ther...

Re: 1983 Churchill Quinta da Agua Alta

Hi there, this wine was by far the most disappointing wine of the whole evening. Both bts were just not really something I would hope to get when ordering a Port in a Restaurant. The first one was spoiled and the second one just also problematic. Neither the missing balance or the flakey, diffuse fu...

Hi there, I am afraid that I did as longer the evening lasted had a problem with the Ginger taste. In the begining I found the very spicy appearance of this bt quite nice but was overwhelmed by the power and its dominance later. Still not a bad Port despite i still feel there was a n issue with VA o...

Re: 1985 Ramos Pinto

Hi there,

for me this was the wine of the night. Not a blockbuster wine but very fine and balanced indeed. The SWC not far behind but just not as balanced as the Ramos Pinto. Also do agree with Tom that the wine is probably now at its best (most approachable)

Re: 1983 Smith Woodhouse

Hi there, I had this wine as Derek a couple of times before and I was never disappointed. Great Vintage Port that may get the critics to be not as complex as you would expect from a Smith Woodhouse as well as it tend to be quite tannic and strong in structure (in my humble opinion) Still again one o...

Re: 1987 Quinta da Cavadinha

Hi there, there is nothing from me else to add then I am in the middle of revistiting now. It is a shame that the bt I brought along to the offline was corked (even only mildly) as this is a fantastic wine. In my eyes not as good as the Malvedos 1987 but just all what you want from a Vintage Port fr...

Re: Something in London in July? Now confirmed for July 21st

Ben, Alex, I am in (21st of July), have already something in mind what I will bring round. Cooling of the Ports will be necessary, I will attempt to use the fridge at work. May need to put Joly Rogers on the bt to fend off greedy collegues (e.g. Kevin who cannot make it :( ) Looking fwd to the...

Re: Poll: 1991 or 1992?

Hi there, as already discussed with uncle Tom I think we should settle this thread properly by haveing a tasting of any VP of shippers/houses that declared in both vintages. We should compare "like for like" and come to a conclusion. As far as I know on the first glance there are Vesuvio, ...

Hi there, I am also interested in this event, however I do not own a lot of Taylors Port (55 and 03, VV 00 and 04, Vargellas 91 and TF 99). Please count me in if still possible. Overall I would like also to warn in advance that this maybe stretching it. Despite I accept the heavy disagreement of DRT...

Re: 1984 Churchill Crusted Port

Must say I got it also completly wrong with this bottle. Thought/Guessed initially also it was a 1963. Found the wine quite complex and apealing. Liked that is was very smooth and soft. Was my third best wine of the night (after Quarles Harris 1980 and Malvedos 1987)

Fully agree with you comments, just want to add that Cockburns 1967 is one of my favourite Ports to open to people who have not had any experience with older Ports to show how good it can be. It is indeed not a "blockbuster" port, but the quality is there despite it comes across as quite u...

dark coulour, good Palate, but not great

Re: 2007 Quinta da Romaneira (formally "A") Vintage Port

Sample A I liked very much when we tried the wines for the first time in the Crusting Pipe. But then somehow it seems to have lost its apeal to me. :( very expressive nose, black currants, quite fat, lacks finesse, slight dry in the finish. Have tried one day later at home with a friend on which it ...

must say I was not at all a fan of sample B. Based on Alex coments I guess it may have been a bad bottle

very dark colour, taste was rather thin and very sweet, not really interesting. Over the next couple of days this stayed as uninteressting as it was in the beginning I am afraid to say.

with regards to sample C I liked most of this port that it became better with time

rubarb Fruit, not really great, a bit short. Over the next couple of days this got a bit better, developed loads of Chassis aromas and also quite a nice length. Still more a wine than a Port though

Hi there, apologies for my late reply. I would be interested as well. But I am not in favour of the date either. Hi there,
