Re: Tastings (Physical & Virtual) - Planner
I would fly back to London in 2025 for either 1945 or 1955, and even have bottles that I could contribute to either tasting. 1965 and 1975 ... probably not. I would love to do another 1985 horizontal, but a "mere" 40 years young is probably pushing the limit of what's necessary to get me t...

Re: Graham (or Malvedos) vertical, Tue 14 May 2024
Excellent. Hopefully we'll be able to make something happen around those dates. By the time we booked our flights the pricing had changed, so we leave Porto on Sunday evening, May 26. The flight isn't until 18:00 so there's still plenty of time for lunch, but if we are to meet up it will have to be...

I purchased my airfare today!
Should I plan to bring anything for this tasting? I have Graham only (no Malvedos) 1942 through present, plus all 5 vintages of The Stone Terraces.

I confirm. Plane tickets are not yet purchased, but likely will be within the next couple of days. Very much looking forward to seeing everyone again for this tasting and the Taylor Single Harvest tasting!

Novotel is good and mid-market. Alternatives are the Shard (expensive) or the Travelodge London Central Southwark (cheap but comfortable). There’s also the Ibis next to the Novotel, but I’ve not stayed there. We've stayed at an Ibis before and it was fine. I'll also have her take a look at the Trav...

Re: Thoughts on LBVs
the best value port on the market today, IMO For ruby Port, sure, but not for all Port. For me, it is very hard to beat the value of a 10 Year Old White Port. They usually cost no more (and often less) than an LBV and I, at least, typically prefer them head-to-head. Sometimes producers even make 10...

London in May
Kari and I will be in London May 10-17, with the primary reason being the Graham's vertical on May 14 and the Taylor Single Harvest tasting on May 16 . But since London is much closer to Sweden than Seattle is, she plans to use this opportunity to visit her "Swedish brother" in Sweden duri...

I was about to email Glenn about perhaps getting together at some point next month, until Alex specifically mentioned the month of May. Yes, I know it's in the title, but what can I say.... The week after this tasting I will be in Portugal for a private "harvest tour" so we might still be...

Where will this tasting be held? Kari is getting ready to make our trip reservations and wants to get a hotel that's relatively convenient for me to return to each night (from this tasting and the Taylor Single Harvest tasting) while... uh... less than full functional.

Re: Port for sale
Sadly, neither of those numbers is terribly useful. The one on the "label" as you call it is probably the Selo de Guarantia, and those numbers are often not tracked by the producers once they've used the selo. The other on the bottom of the bottle is most likely something from the bottle m...

Re: An Evening of Port with the Symington's, Tuesday 28th November at BBR and Friday1st December 2023 at 67 Pall Mall
I think we should appropriately acknowledge Bertie3000’s ability to be the closest to all the Ports poured blind at the BBR tasting. I nailed every one of the 67 Pall Mall Port tasting. I may have been helped by the placemat which said what each wine contained, but I’m certain I would have identifi...

Sounds like a very nice evening!
I would hope that I would have recognized the 1994 Vesuvio. It's such a lovely Port. Well done earning the bottle of 1994 Dow!

Re: Taylor Single Harvest Tawny Tasting - 16 May 2024
There is also now (as of 2022) the new Very Very Old Port category, which I believe is intended for bottles that are 80+ years old. I haven't seen that regulation, though, so am not sure about the exact age required for something to be labeled VVO. Here you go! https://files.diariodarepublica.pt/2s...

Re: Taylor Single Harvest Tawny Tasting - 16 May 2024
The Quevedo White was incorrectly described in the original list in the first post, but now updated. It’s actually the “Very Old…” so amendment required to placemats. To be fair, it depends whether you're looking at the box or the label. It is really "Quevedo 1970 white", but due to regul...

Re: Taylor Single Harvest Tawny Tasting - date tbc
The tasting will now also include the Taylor VVO Coronation Edition. Assuming 12 attendees this means £220 per head for the wines. I'm still awaiting confirmation of the 16th May date from B&F, but I'm assuming this is OK so could people confirm availability for this please (if you haven't alre...

Roy is doing his usual review of the 2021 vintage starting next week (IIRC) with the plan being to release his notes in the FTLOP newsletter by the end of the year. I've seen a too-distant-to-see-details picture and it looks like there are lots of bottles. Granted the picture was both 2020 and 2021,...

New abbreviation? "TK" for the Single Harvest Tawnies from 1962 to 1971 that Taylor purchased from Krohn?

I note that 1982 Croft was apparently so horrible that it was expunged from the voting records.
(Yes, yes, I understand that it was a last-minute add. It's still funny.)
