Re: How do you drink yours?
Not necessarily a different taste. Try sipping coke from a glass. Then try slurping the same quantity through a straw. More mouth feel, more coating - like painting your mouth in coke. And I don't mean white powder. I like to taste my port all round my mouth so that means I either take a large gulp ...

I *am* good with computers. It is everything else where I let myself down...

Derek, I've sent you a couple of PMs (and one to Alex too) but they are still in my outbox - have you got a full inbox or do I need to kick something?

Re: My virgin trip
You guys are great - I'm really pleased I joined here. Already I have a framework of a trip and plenty of recommendations. My Father can still walk fairly well but walking him for a few miles up hills is going to be too much but I'll factor that in with thoughts of taxis. Having not visited the area...

Your rules smell awfully like the rules of Mornington Crescent...
Anyway, hotel booked, my new friend Derek has organised the port, the office will be warned that I *may* be a little excitable on Wednesday and this sounds like fun.
See you there...

Thanks for the link. Had read that but the NCC is something a bit different to everyone crashing at yours.
SO I wonder where I can source a 94 at this time of night?

Re: How do you drink yours?
The port sprays across your palate. More taste, less juice. More to savour...
Sediment? Ha. Silver funnel. Muslin. You know it makes sense.

Darn, posted a reply and lost it. Darned computers.
OK, if I attend, I'd like to know the deal. Going to be fairly difficult to get a 94 in time, I've got 87 on site and 95 in a cellar somewhere. That aside, rather interested in sharing a snifter.

Re: My virgin trip
Fantastic. Thank you all for giving your information so freely. I'm going to work up an itinerary. I don't mind paying / booking in advance (though I no speak da lingo at all) to get some tastings to make it a special trip but I don't want to go somewhere that is rubbish. I'm aiming for 3 days out t...

Re: How do you drink yours?
I've got a meerschaum (Sherlock Holmes) version in glass. Holds enough port to do the trick but you can't put it down.
Sucking the port through the straw blows it over the palette - much more taste for much less quantity. It goes further...

How do you drink yours?
This probably sounds dumb...so I shall ask anyway. I used to drink port when I was very young from a sherry schooner. Presumably my parents thought it was a neat small glass. Then I progressed to the Paris goblet as was fashionable in the 70s. Then a variety of smaller tulip glasses. Now I prefer th...

Re: Greetings from Bucks
It was a motorbike - I ride a Pan European and the port wasn't available in the Tesco I found near me but it was in one I went past in Kent. 50 miles later it was shaken, stirred and smelling. Not entirely how I want to fortify my wines...still, it aged the labels on the other bottles nicely!! I'm w...

My virgin trip
Hi All, Despite having been drinking good port for many many years, I have never yet visited Portugal. I'm now able to go and would be immensely grateful for some advice from your good selves. I'm planning to make this a memorable trip of 3-4 days to coincide with my Father's 80th birthday. Happy to...

Greetings from Bucks
Hi All, New member joining. Thanks to the mods for letting me in - looks like my reputation precedes me :-) (In a good way). Adore port drinking... My brother, father and myself have done about a dozen cases of Offley's Boa Vista 1980 in recent years and if anyone knows any for sale in the UK, pleas...
