Wow - sounds like an awesome event. Current circumstances dictate I cannot attend however I shall think of you all, shall raise a glass to your wonderful evening and will organise some dead cow for the evening for myself and SWMBO.
Enjoy.

Re: Latest buy
OK, so the Finest Reserve isn't subtle. I'm not going to go for official tasting notes but it tastes like port, it looks like port and has a mouth feel that isn't bad at all.
My tally shows 24 of those so that's the next month sorted anyway.

Re: Port for sale by retailer
DRT - I think the 25% off finishes today which is worth bearing in mind. I picked up 12 of the Taylors 2005 LBV last night and 6 of the own brand Tawny which is actually thoroughly drinkable. The tawny netted to about £4.70. Plus I got a £10 off and had a £10 off from the previous day's Dow Finest c...

Talking to a portuguese colleague today about the last tasting I attended (the RAF Club 21 bottle) and she had never heard of the producers. She went on to say that they must be exporters only, that Gaia was the big one natively and that the ones I named (the usual "big" ones in my opinion...

9000 bottles in 24 years?
So a bottle a day including weekends.
Sounds like a challenge. Anyone care to sponsor me?

Anyone got any current tips on supermarket purchases of NV tipples for routine consumption? Currently enjoying a Passadouro at the moment and the cellar is looking very unloved apart from a few of those. Urgently need to shop.

Re: Port for sale at auction
I love a bargain as much as anyone and like the idea of an informal syndicate along the lines of "I'd like 6 but there's 18 at this auction, PM if you're interested". I've been a bit knackered to go out apart from work and back and have managed to empty the port cabinet of daily drinkers s...

Re: Do you need a bottle carrier?
Hi Derek,
Wouldn't mind a second one if there's still availability. No worries if not.
No current plans to visit London but may need to check the tastings coming up
Many thanks,
Nick

Quite nice but I may prefer the Dow's Midnight although Asda have put that up to £5.86 for a 500ml bottle. Need to try both in a sitting as the taste buds are playing up recently.

1975 Dow vintage port
Dow 75 received from a reputable source and careful cellarage. Decanted Christmas Eve for consumption D+24. On decanting - little nose, pale colouring. Has the look of an old tawny. Tasting not attempted. D+24: Eye - pale, brownish aiming towards orange with the look of an old port. Clear miniscus, ...

Re: Do you need a bottle carrier?
Was thinking of AHB but whatever works :-) Working in Reading and personal commitments mean that evenings where I can head to London aren't frequent at all. I used to live 20 minutes from Charing Cross and had plenty of free evenings - times change though. Would be good to get to another tasting esp...

Ah Derek, I have misinformed you then, my apologies. I think that it is good for the money despite not being the one I had led you to believe however I did also acquire some Dow's Midnight 50cl bottles yesterday as Sunday afternoon port.

I don't get to London much any more but if you know a friend in Reading, that might work.

Warre's 2006 LBV at £6.99 in Morrisons. Rather heavy and unsubtle on initial drinking but after the first couple of glasses it was better. Uncertain whether that was its contact with air or my contact with port.

Re: Port for sale by retailer
Following on from RAYC's tip, Tesco at Henley has a dozen less of the Dow's Master Blend LBV 2006.
The eleven bottles I bought should be very good and I am planning to show all ten bottles that I purchased to my friends on Saturday...
