Re: Feb 01 2010 Off-Line: 75s and Others at Crusting Pipe

Thanks!

In future I sense it would be better if I simply post my TNs directly on the litlte TN forum (instead of creating threads to discuss entire dinners).

Left handed and proud!

Alright, homey -- just bought the last two loose bottles of this at Seckford (45per, DP, excl. VAT) on the strength of your note.

Fingers crossed.

Re: The 1000 finest wines ever made

Now that we're over 100 ports...can we remove the 1980 Taylor from the list?

Only had two experiences, but both were pristine bottles, neither of which meritted a score above 89pts. Not one I would recommend, particularly when bottles like the 2000 Niepoort remain off the list.

Re: Port for sale at auction

The 85F is indeed a good hit, Sushi. You see one or two bottles pop up here and there, but you always have to be skeptical of how those individual bottles have been stored (I have often found them in windows or other large displays as 'show' bottles). Would love to add to my allocation at that price.

Re: TNs: OL Last Night at Crusting Pipe

Derek -- I do not recall mentioning the nature of the theme, but I did mention that I was told that there was a theme. All -- After reading Alex's notes, and the posts on this thread, it seems that there was pretty strong group consensus on the various attributes of each wine. Is this common in grou...

Re: TNs: OL Last Night at Crusting Pipe

Rather on the contrary, for better or worse. While Derek had hoped that by having three blind 75s to 'surprise' Julian with their quality and to unmask them in triumph after Julian had guessed some more majestic vintage, when asked what he thought the masked wines where -- he said something along th...

Feb 01 2010 Off-Line: 75s and Others at Crusting Pipe

Informal tasting in London with some new friends. My notes are more impressions, as I was busy being introduced to the Bishop of Norwich. Overall, I viewed the wines in three distinct groups. The 70 Dow (the only 'proper') Vintage Port in the group was a standout. In tier two, we had a few very clas...

Thanks, Ben.

I was thinking I'd bring the 1995, unless folks feel that's too young.

Thanks, Killer.

Sounds like it'll be a wonderful tasting.

What kind of stems do people generally bring to port OLs?

Re: Oscar Night Port Tasting - London - 11th Feb 2010

Hi there!

If there is any space available, I would be interested in joining. I don't know if it is obscure enough, but I've heard good things about the '76 Niepoort and figured this might be the appropriate time to give it a whirl.

Re: Quinta dos Malvedos: 22nd March 2010

First post! Hi Jacob and Co. -- I would like to attend this tasting, if there is still space. As a word of introduction, I was born and rasied in Manhattan (with a few stints in London to build character). I've been living over here most recently for the last 9 months or so, stationed out of Notting...
