If any of my fellow emergency service people are free early this evening, drop me a line as I will be killing time in the London Bridge area from about 4.30pm... Not that we want to peak too early!

Thanks for the reply Alex. If I do end up going along I will most certainly report back on the merits of the day and the masterclass.

Looks like steak is the way to go...
Could I please have no starter and a medium rare steak and chips, no sauce.
Thank you.

Decanter Spain & Portugal Fine Wine Encounter Feb 2016
I am considering buying some tickets for the Decanter fine wine encounter on 27th Feb 2016, where there is a 'The Douro Boys - Flying the flag for the Douro' masterclass. Info is a bit thin but I am guessing they will have port producers as well as Douro wine makers. It is £50 for the day tasting ti...

Port & wine websites and blogs
Would kind :tpf: folk please let me know what blogs they can recommend to get more info about Port and Wine. With :tpf: being obviously the best resource, what other sites have good regular updates about 'good juice' as Julian would say? Obviously most the producers have their own sites and I would ...

It all sounds like a wonderful evening, I already feel in debt to Chris for creating such a hedonistic, pleasurable competition. Congratulations on your victory this year Alex. Unfortunately I don't think I will be succeeding you next year...unless there is a huge weighting given to enthusiasm in Ch...

Hi Alex,
It all sounds very intriguing, so could you please put me down to attend. One question, when you says wines, is that Ports or 'normal' vino?
I shall look forward to it, and start pondering on what to present on!

Re: A Year in Port - A film documentary
It would be great if we could get something organised, and if we could do that with a Port producer all the better. I will ask that he keeps in mind, and when the release date and promotional plan are known, we can look at what is possible.

One would think that one's butler would be able to collect the decanter from the club the following morning so that one could enjoy the Port in the comfort of one's own home? Is that not an option that they have considered? Wouldn't one send one's Underbutler for such a task - surely one's Butler i...

A Year in Port - A film documentary
At the risk of going over the ground of an old post, I thought I would let you know about what will hopefully be a wonderful documentary on Port to be released in 2016. It is made by David Kennard and Inca Films who have previously made the wonderful wine documentaries: A Year in Burgundy and A Year...

Re: Can you recommend a port glass?
I have discovered by serendipity this evening that Berry Bros Rudd champagne glass is very good for port. That deserves a fuller explanation... ? In terms of port glasses, I was recently in Porto, and at the Sandeman lodge where I did the 1790 tour. It finished in their gift shop where I bought 6 R...

Hope you find a good bottle for the celebration. Thanks for the Croft pointer Simon. I was thinking more of a case. Something I can open when he is around, which is quite often, gawd bless 'im. I even was thinking about getting a couple, so I could have one to drink with him and one to give him sho...

If you decide to give the Croft 91 a go,and find out which of the tasting notes you side with, Lay and Wheeler have some for just over £50 on this link https://www.laywheeler.com/region/portugal?page=2
Hope you find a good bottle for the celebration.

And to continue going off topic... Now it is 50p at mainline stations! As I get older more and more I feel as if I deserve to be a network rail shareholder with my contributions over that said penny. I concentrated on the port tasting rather than notes on this fine bottle, but I did note that it became increasingly lovely as time allowed it to open up. It was a very enjoyable wine and a fine accompaniment to my rare steak and chips. My thanks to Derek for providing a lovely bottle of red.

Youthful, purple colouring. A pleasant taste without much of a finish for me. Again I think it suffered in comparison against some other of the ports that evening. I guessed at a Taylor's Q de TF 88 which I offer for members' amusement. I would like to try this one again sometime to see if it showed...

Re: 1994 Tesco
This port provided my single point for the evening, as I guessed at a Tesco 97, so thank you to Julian for bringing it along to help my cause. It had a very vanillary nose and struggled against the other wines of the evening. It was also noted to have had a very new cork. I have previously enjoyed a...
