1970 Rebello Valente
The first of two auction bottles (Sworders, 5th December 2019, lot 87). Good appearance and no obvious issues. Assumed Oporto bottled. Cork removed in one piece and in excellent condition. Loads of heavy sediment. Decanted clean and bright. 30% opacity, pale almost tawny. QA sample has very muted no...

1975 Croft
From an in bond OWC of six magnums purchased 2-3 years ago from a merchant. OWC was shiny new, and magnums were freshly labelled and rewaxed. Half of these were passed on to other TPFists and this is the first I've opened. Level well into neck, but once the wax was broken off (not easily) cork was f...

The now almost traditional "Cliff" Xmas lunch and dinner took place on 19th with five attendees. Lunch at Hawksmoor accompanied by: Charles Heidsieck "Blanc des Millenaires" 1995 - still excellent, but now not going to improve and probably coming towards end of peak, drinking win...

Last night, Tignanello 2009 - excellent but far from ready.
Tonight, Domaine Huet "Le Haut-Lieu" Vouvray Sec 2017 - mixture of freshness and starting to show interesting signs of maturity; unfortunately evaporated soon after opening.

Festive Drinking 2023
A slightly later start this year, but once again what have we drunk, are drinking, or planning to drink during this period of vinious excess? I'll kick off with the (quite long) annual lunch I have with a few ex work colleagues. Sitting in the Wine Library at 67 Pall Mall last Saturday (9th Dec) we ...

Re: 1972 Offley
Final glass after five days. Left under VacUVin apart from the last 18ish hours.
The faint nose has now gone and there’s an unwelcome bitterness in the mouth.
Overall, a pleasant surprise but clearly not one for the future.
The rapid decline once un-VacUVined was interesting but not unpredictable.

At approx +100hrs no change.
I'm going to leave the VacUVin cork out and see if another 24 hours makes any difference.
