Re: 1988 Gould Campbell LBV

Do you think that the very good impression you had of this wine was because of the extra bottle age that the port had before you drank it?

Re: The TPF Third Christmas Offline

Does anyone remember which bottle, when opened, had a cork that fell apart and was given to me to rebuild and confirm the identity of the port in question? I think it was one which Derek brought and opened.

Remember that the theme for Thursday's offline is "Port You'd Like to Share with a Fellow Port lover" - this surely does not count. Please?

Was this the bottle which had a cork completely disintegrate, and which I took home to rebuild?

Re: Self-storage warehouses

I've just investigated the price of self-storage for use during my forthcoming building project. My local depot charges £15 per month for a room of 15 square feet with a 10 foot ceiling. The facility is heated so does not get too cold in the winter but is not air conditioned so would not be great fo...

Re: 1966 Quinta do Foz vintage port

But this was my only bottle, bought as part of a mini-vertical so that I could acquire some of the '63 Foz. So even if we did have another '66 horizontal we would not be able to include the Foz. But I am mightily impressed by it. I was expecting something quite weak and tired. Instead it is robust b...

1966 Calem Foz

1966 Quinta do Foz vintage port Plastic snap-on capsule; UK bottled by the Wine Society and with a Wine Society label but with a cork clearly branded Quinta do Foz 1966; light green glass. Decanted easily and left a lot of sediment in the bottle. A lovely rich, red colour, deep centre, deep rim. Wo...

Has anyone phoned them to see what they are serving? I can’t imagine that you would get much for £15! The planned ports are: Graham's 6 Grapes Graham's LBV 2003 Graham's 10 Year Old Tawny Graham's Crusted Port bottled 2001 Graham's Malvedos 1998 Graham's 2003 vintage port Graham's 1983 vintage port...

Re: Corked/Spoilt Ports - Name and Shame

A shortlist can be made by machine, but eliminating the likes of ‟unlike last week’s bottle, this had no TCA at all” requires human reading. Perhaps you could volunteer to create the shortlist and others could volunteer to do the human reading? I can write the SQL do this and provide a file with t...

Alex, For clarification, are you asking for us to name and shame spoiled ports which we taste in 2009 or everything which we have ever tasted which was spoiled? Also, I think this is a great post. As the person who came up with the idea and also an administrator, could I persuade you to make this po...

Re: Port for sale by retailer

The Joanne label refers to a pipe of Port which was bought for Joanna, presumably commemorating the year of her birth or perhaps of her Christening, by her Godfather. In buying a pipe, he was able to persuade Cockburn to label the bottles purchased with the "Joanna" label. The bottles have...
