2002 Calem Colheita (bottled 2019)

Bottled 2019 Reddish brown wine with obvious tears. Nose of turkish delight, jamaica ginger cake, sultanas, hint of something a little hot - VA? - at first but that soon blew off. Caressing texture in the mouth, even a hint of cake mix at first, creamed demerara sugar and butter. Then kirsch, chocol...

That does look a very pretty drink. But I agree, it ain't a Negroni.

1970 Warre

Corney & Barrow Bottling. Level into neck. 8 hours decant. Orange rim, 60% opaque, fine legs. Just a prickle of heat on the nose, with cherries. Liquorice, plum, prunes, red cherry, on the palate. Luscious and very long but not too sweet. Great balance. This is beautiful, beautiful port. Must bu...

Re: The wine shed - a concept, and some horrible maths..

Are these bottle racks or case racks? For bottle racks the minimum gap mg is the wider of - the width w of the cellar master comfortably crouching down to get to the lowest part of the rack (e.g. 50 cm; but, do measure, it's wider than you think/remember) + the distance p the longest bottles protrud...

Re: Virtual Tasting #7, Tuesday 16 June 2020

@rich_n - please do drink the Warre 2007 LBV and post a new tasting note [Constandia added a tasting note on 20 May 2020 to the one I wrote on 17 November 2019. Hers needs to be split off from mine into a separate tasting note. Not just because it was a different bottle but also because it sounds as...

www.vintageport.se states that Andresen bought Mackenzie after the Second World War but sold it to Harveys in 1970.

Re: Virtual Tasting #7, Tuesday 16 June 2020

Warre 1970 (i.e. tercentenary vintage) for me then. A wine I first had with a wine buff classics master at the school wine society in early 1991. It was the star of that evening, at the beginning of its drinking window, but rich and warm. The classics master had obtained it from the choirmaster, who...

Re: Port cocktails

Aha! A label, 50 x 38 mm if I am correct, by Emile Samson of Paris, mid-late nineteenth century. If there is a small mark of crossed S's on the back that will be conclusive. (Amongst my other interests, I am the current Vice President of the Wine Label Circle. We make TPF look like the Hell Fire Clu...

1992 Dalva Colheita (bottled 2017)

Bottled 2017. + 2 hours. Pale mahogany, greenish rim. Nose rather dumb and fiery but hazelnuts and orange peel can be discerned. On the palate herbs and and a big burst of clementine- like someone spritzing a segment of it across a glass of gin. Long finish reminiscent of good quality orange marmala...

Re: Virtual Tasting #7, Tuesday 16 June 2020

Yes please. Depending on logistics, I may be a late (1930) arrival. I am trying to decide whether a VP or an older colheita should fall under the axe for the occasion.

Re: 'Bring a port not noted on the tasting notes index as at 1 Feb 2020' - Thursday 12th November 2020, B&F

It's my own fault, having set this tasting up so far in advance. I am now drinking some of the possibilities simply because they are to hand. At least I am posting notes on them.

1995 Reccua LBV

Bottled 2001. +24 hrs 70% opaque, orange rimmed ruby red. Nose of caramelised orange peel and herbs. Immediate hit of warmth and herbs on the palate, before some maraschino cherries and almonds appear. Congruent finish, with a hint of prune, not enormously long, but very pleasant to taste and re-tas...

1934 Dalva Colheita (bottled 1973)

Bottled 1973 Decanted 48 hours. Clear brown wine. Looks, and smells, like a well-aged medium sweet Madeira - lots of VA. Tastes more like very old Marsala fortified with green Chartreuse rather than brandy. Rich raisined fruit on the palate. Very very long, slightly drier, finish of prunes and figs....

2005 Ferreira LBV (unfiltered)

From half bottle. Decanting Sample - light, with more heat showing on tasting sample. Sludge rather than sediment. + 3 hrs - 80% opaque, nose has imported plum and blackcurrant jam; simple jammy palate and quite harsh tannins, merely good port at this point, nothing particular to offer + 24 hours - ...

From half bottle. 2003 Ferreira LBV (unfiltered)

From half bottle. Decanting Sample - copious (although pleasantly chewy) sediment. Full but tannic. + 3 hrs 75% opaque, nose herby, hint of acetone, congruent light entry, then red fruit, delicious broad finish of cherry cobbler + 24 hours 75% opaque, nose not terribly attractive, but very attractiv...
