Bottled 1965. Bronzed red colour, 30% opaque. Sweet red licorice strings on the nose, with candied cherry and a touch of compost. A little hollow on entry with sweetened rhubarb on the mid-palate. Mouthfilling rhubarb and rose petals on the late palate leads nicely to a big rhubarb and Turkish Delight finish that is slightly bitter but quite delicious. Served blind. 88/100.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.
2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports.
