Re: 2011 Sandeman LBV
Bottled 2015. Deep crimson colour, opaque and with a narrow rim. Subdued nose but some hard swirling coaxes out some ripe blackcurrant and sour lemon juice. Punchy and powerful entry; a good dose of acidity leads a strong tannin backed, blackcurrant fronted palate. Massive late palate with a huge tannic grip. Chewy toasted tannins dominate the aftertaste and deliver a big blackcurrant finish that slowly changes to black chocolate. This is a big and powerful port that needs a decade or two in the cellar. 92/100.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.
2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports.
