An informal pre-Christmas tasting of ports with the theme "A bottle of port which cost you less than £25", as suggested by winesecretary and organised (with plenty of help from others) by richn.
Also browning at the edge, also pretty high-toned. Younger and more vigorous than expected on the palate, with pontefract cakes on the finish. Very nice stuff. I guessed Warre '77; at least I was in the right decade. #2 WOTN.
Mature appearance with an orange rim, 60% opaque. A lovely nose, rich and full of fruitcake. A swirl turns the nose a little harsher and a bit hollow. Perfumed on the palate, lightly flavoured with plenty of honey on the impact. The texture is a little light but the favours are released with air; the palate being surprisingly youthful given the colour and appearance. The aftertaste is vibrant with clover honey and a good, jammy blackcurrant finish. Served blind, this was guessed to be Graham Malvedos 1992. 88/100. Tasted 17-Dec-19. Decanted 4½ hours.
