2019 Niepoort

Post by WS1 »

cask sample, purple blackish colour, tight rim and with an opaque centre, restrained fragrant nose after roses and violets. Very fine taste after cherries and a bit cranberries. Overall a fresh, slightly spicy, moreish fruit taste. The finish develops over time from initially very sweet and closed into something long and serious. The port has an excellent balanced acidity and firm tannic structure. Silky mouthfeel. Great Port which leans more into the elegant and refined corner rather than the very bold and forceful one. Still a bold port! Overall an excellent vintage following the extraordinaire 2017. One not to miss. 95/100. Tasted over 3 days starting 29th of May.

Ordered a case a few weeks ago (will be delivered in September, if I'm not mistaken). Glad I wasn't mistaken in assessing this one.
