1991 Churchill

Post by winesecretary »

+ 72 hours (opened, stored in 'fridge with cork roughly reinserted, the occasional glass consumed in the interim)

90% opaque, red rim. Gently herbaceous nose, with a hint of caramelised walnuts. Cool blueberry fruit on the front palate, then chocolate and then prunes and then some cassia-bark inflected tannins, then back to chocolate again. The flavours follow one another rather than intermingle.

This is really nice port, and much more interesting than it was when first opened (when it was both a bit obvious and a bit hot). On this showing ready to go, with a 24 hour decant, but with comfortably a decade in front of it.

+ 120 hours (same storage situation)

Becoming more simple. Do not keep this long in these conditions.
