NV Calem Tawny 10YO

NV Cálem 10YO Tawny

Rusty red, fading to an almost yellow / orange edge. Nose is a bit spirit but oranges are also present, too. In the mouth, loads of sugar. Some tawny oranges, too. Medium long aftertaste. Unbelievably easy to drink. Very quaffable. I am very impressed. One of the better 10-year-olds that isn’t from a small producer using lots of old stocks.

Cálem is one of those shippers I see everywhere but which I rarely try. I thought I would therefore have a go at a few of them to see what they are like (see other reviews for the 2015 VP and “White and Dry” white). I was actually quite impressed with the range.

Rated*: C-

* A Note on Ratings

My rating system attempts to answer the question “is this a good Port?” one of three ways: N—No; P—Possibly; or C—Certainly. Ports generally are weighted slightly by their category. Therefore, a Ruby Port might receive a C rating for Certainly good which it might not were it to be a Vintage Port. I sometimes modify my rating with a plus or minus indicating that the Port is better or worse than might be expected for this category.
