NV Quinta da Devesa White 20YO (bottled 2019)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled 2019. Tasted alongside the Kopke 20 YO White. Darker than the Kopke with a slight tone of olive brown to the deep gold colour. On the nose this shows caramel and orange, sweet and citric like crepe suzette, with a lovely floral undertone. Lovely thick texture on the palate, brown sugar and caramel with the promised orange coming through powerfully on the mid-palate. Strong acidity and a slight bitterness to the orange marmalade makes this a huge mouthful of a wine. Lots of peppercorn heat on the aftertaste, then a lingering bitter orange marmalade finish. Great length. A little too sweet for my taste, giving the wine a slight imbalance, but there is no denying that this is a huge wine - one to taste to make up your own mind. 89/100. Tasted 10-Apr-21.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
