Dow 1963, English bottled in a 70cl light brown bottle, secure rounded pop-off plastic capsule clearly stamped as Dow 1963. Top of cork immersed in liquid. Waisted cork pushed in and bagged out confirmed the identity. Initially very pale in the decanter, this put on colour rapidly to reach a wonderful bronzed red of 50% opacity. An amazing nose of spiced apple and raisin, full of cinnamon and mace. Spiced fruit on the palate, elegant and fully mature with a gorgeous sweet balance. Sweet spiced baked apple aftertaste and a long cinnamon drops finish. A wonderful bottle of Dow 1963, thank goodness for the pop-off capsule. Drunk 30 April 2022. Decanter priming sample so no decanting time.
6 hours later the wine turned out to be slightly corked so my decanter priming sample was probably the best the wine had to offer.
