1960 Warre

Post by jdaw1 »

We noted the impressive 350th Anniversary of Warre, with a vertical alas not covering the entirety of its history, as arranged by Neil.

Bottle purchased a few years ago from Sheffield Auction Galleries.

An unknown English Bottler. Wax seal embossed WARRE 1960. Cork came out well, crumbling a little at the bottom. No discernible markings on cork. [Later updated - cork left to dry out - can now discern '960']

Double-decanted at 1200 and recorked at 1215.

Considerable quantities of fairly solid sediment. Wine had good colour and the dregs tasted in good order.

Slightly browning. On the nose, this one was starting to smell something like a modern port, the first of this tasting. Lively palate, quite full. Strawberries and figs. Lots of white pepper on the finish.
