1963 Warre

Post by jdaw1 »

We noted the impressive 350th Anniversary of Warre, with a vertical alas not covering the entirety of its history, as arranged by Neil.

The second of seven bottles from Corney & Barrow in November 2018. The first was consumed soon after original purchase & was excellent.
Opened at 0630 on morning of tasting, double decanted (using a funnel with a fine metal mesh) back into the original bottle and vac-u-vined.

Plain, unlabelled bottle with heavy foil capsule. Some signs of old seepage under the capsule but nothing particularly worrying. Level base of neck.

Cork came out in (mostly) one piece and in not bad condition. Fairly clear printing on cork - "WARRE VINTAGE 1963 BOTTLED 1965, MAYOR SWORDER LONDON EC4".

Very heavy sediment in bottle that was undisturbed by decanting.

Small QA sip didn't some any immediate problems.

Vigorous, 'modern' colour. On the nose - mint! On the palate, chocolate and herbal notes intermixed with the fruit. A brilliant 1963, as good as any I have ever had, I think.
