1960 Martinez
Reddish-brown colour; 20% opaque. Some bottle stink on the nose, but this blew off with a little patience in the glass. Smooth in texture initially but a little harshness comes over on the mid-palate. The harshness fades quickly to allow the dry fruit to come through. Very dry palate, but with mature and evolved raisin fruit dominating. Lovely dry tannins on the finish with a good length of dry licorice root. A lovely mouthful. Served blind this was guessed to be Dow 1972. 92/100. 27-Oct-15. 13 hour decant.
Top Ports in 2022: Quinta do Noval Nacional 1931. I have never drunk such a wonderful bottle of Port. I cried with joy.
2023: Fonseca 1966. There are not many better Ports.
