1970 Cockburn

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Deep burnished red in colour, 60% opaque. Attractive nose of caramel and soft rhubarb. Soft texture on the palate, sweet fruit with tobacco and raisins coming through strongly. Generous but balanced acidity keeps the focus and makes the palate very lively. The acidity does burn slightly on the aftertaste but then delivers a massive finish that makes the mouth water and the palate tingle with an overload of aniseed and tobacco. Great port, drinking very well at the moment. 92/100. Drunk 20-Aug-16. Decanted 24 hours.
Top Ports in 2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

2025: Quevedo 1972 Colheita, b.2024. Just as good as Niepoort 1900!
