1980 Warre

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Two bottles were served at the dinner, this tasting note was taken from the better of the two bottles. Dark red in colour, opaque. Warm nose, nutty and spicy yet full of old library dust. Warm on the palate, full of rounded and sweet fruit with multiple layers of flavour and complexity. Delicious chocolate tannins, slightly dry, but otherwise mellow and integrated. Warm - perhaps slightly hot - aftertaste with splendid cocoa tannins which fade to deliver an attractive, slightly bitter green finish of great length. 93/100. Drunk 15-Nov-16. Decanted 3 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
